Well I will avoid Suffusion then… Sad because I really liked that theme. I’ve downloaded your two suggestions and will try them out, probably on my fangirl site first, and see how they go. I also found one called iTheme2, is that a steady theme?

    Thanks again!

I must say that – now that I’ve thought about it – fewer errors were happening after the latest WordPress update. Don’t know if it really has an effect or not…

Oh, by the way, the Gallery thing with Jetpack that you suggested works great. Love it! ??

Hi Richard! Thank you for checking in. I had planned to post an update within a few days…

The issue is not at all yet resolved on my main site (rabidhorse.com), however, it so far seems to run fine on my sub-site (scififangirl.rabidhorse.com)

The only difference between the two right now are the themes. I’ve been experimenting to see if it would help. I returned to Suffusion for my scifi site, and (crosses fingers) it seems solid as a rock, the only bumps are when I update or install certain plugins. Only happened once in the past two weeks – the error screen came back and disappeared after five minutes. I don’t understand why that happens, and I have gotten no responses from GoDaddy.

On my rabidhorse.com site, the widgets still keep disappearing every once in a while, and that truly bothers me as I have potential clients that occasionally visit my site. I cannot afford for things to go wrong at the wrong moment. When I have a few hours, I will probably install Suffusion on that site – it seems more solid than the theme I currently have on my main site. Do you have any suggestions for simple, flexible, solid, portfolio themes?

I don’t understand the problems I’ve been having. I had WordPress for years before and none of this came up. Theme issues? Compatibility? I may change host services (again) later this year, but cannot afford it now. And which to choose? Everybody told me different before I went to GoDaddy, and I have to say that I don’t hate that provider.

Anyway, that is the deal so far… ??

For some reason all my sidebars were removed and put in the “unused sidebars” area of the Appearance – Widgets page. Easy enough to put them back, but I don’t understand why they were there in the first place. Then on both my sites (the third one, a spare-time thing – showcase.rabidhorse.com – I haven’t looked into because of lack of time on it, might get a new project, must concentrate on that first) I got notifications to upgrade to WordPress 3.9.

I had already updated to 3.9 on all three sites. I’m totally confused.

This morning everything was fine on the two sites, except for the TinyMCE plugin. There was an update for it, applied it, but it didn’t change anything.

Things are going pretty badly all of a sudden. My sidebars are all gone this morning, right when I’m apply for a new project. Not a happy camper at all… (www.rabidhorse.com) I don’t know what to do. GoDaddy is REALLY long about replying for any kind of help. If I try to change theme, most of the time I get an Internal Error message.

Edit: I looked in the one place I didn’t expect any changes to have happen and voila. ALL my widgets in the sidebars are gone. I did NOT remove them; there were all there yesterday. Today they are gone. Why?

Hi Samuel… Thanks for the advice! I may well look into changing providers again, although I think I signed up for a 2 year thing, will have to check that. I’d just moved from Canadian Web Hosting, which I really liked, but it would have cost me a LOT more to have the amount of space I have now.

The wiphi.ini.pingie thingie… I don’t know how to get to a root file… I will look that up on the weekend or something, methinks it will take several hours for me to even remotely understand that… lol… But I do appreciate the advice. I will first check my GoDaddy options. Or lack thereof.

On the good side, things are running as they did before… for now…

Well, since the WordPress update (3.8.2) everything is running smoothly on all my sites. After taking a really, really deep breath and updating, nothing glitched so I went ahead and updated Jetpack. So far (I stress “so far”), everything is peachy sweet and quick, not one single Fatal Error anywhere. So far. I had wanted to install W3cache – I have a lot of images on my main site – do you think it would safely install now? I couldn’t even install it before, never mind activate it.

I dunno, but the WP update may have helped… ?? I won’t mark this as resolved just yet, but if after a week or two nothing else happens, I’ll drop back in. Thank you for following this and the suggestions… ??

Now you’ve made me want to make a Peach Crisp.

There are some plugins that just won’t update anymore, and on my MAIN site (rabidhorse.com), every plugin (ALL) that requests an update gives me this:

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Usually, after 5 minutes, all is okay, but occasionally the plugin refuses to update or won’t activate. Example, the W3 Total Cache. I’d heard it was a good one to have, but it will not activate.

On one of my sub-sites (scififangirl.rabidhorse.com) all is good, at least so far. On my 3rd site (showcase.rabidhorse.com), it is glitchy, but works. ALL run the same theme now – I tried Admired (I miss Suffusion terribly), and it seems mostly workable.

I’m hoping ( and terrified) with the upcoming WP 3.9 update that things will fall into place. Either that or everything will explode…

This is the message they sent me:

Thank you for contacting Professional Hosting Support. Our Plesk hosting servers does not support error logs. However, if you find that your websites resolves to errors, you can enable detailed errors which will provide assistance with debugging the cause if the issue.

By default, our Windows hosting accounts display a custom error when applications generate an exception. We display a generic error because the detailed error messages allow a malicious user to obtain sensitive information.

To troubleshoot the error, you can modify your web.config file and specify that a detailed error message displays. A detailed error message helps you to locate the specific code that is causing the issue.

CAUTION: The code samples we provide below do not constitute a complete web.config file. Do not replace your existing web.config file with the code we provide. Before changing your web.config file, we recommend creating a backup.

This stuff is out of my league. I know I’ll make a mess and I will not start over again, I’ve already done that enough times. One thing I will try on a weekend is to redo my site with a different theme, though these past weeks of experience is telling me there is no guarantee. I’m not even sure if it is really Jetpack that is causing this though it seems to be the one constant.

No one has gotten back to me yet…

Two of my three sites still experience problems. Although all three are on the same provider (two are sub-sites of my main site), one is (so far) now problem-free. The other two (showcase.rabidhorse.com and rabidhorse.com) still get fatal error messages. Both run Jetpack 2.9 as they simply cannot take an upgrade, it all fails. The problem free site is now running Jetpack 2.9.2. (though when I upgraded, I still got the fatal error page. If I waited a minute or two before refreshing, it was fine. This didn’t work with the other two sites.)

So far, the problem (I’m guessing) is theme incompatibility. I changed the themes on two of my sites – one running an older Choco theme (which I liked for a simple blog), the other two both running Suffusion, which I love. On my scifi blog, I changed the Choco for Admired and then took the chance to update Jetpack to the latest version. All works well! And Admired is growing on me. However, for my “project” site, although I changed the theme, I’m still afraid to update Jetpack as I am very afraid I’ll have trouble and need to start over. On my main site, I have not changed the theme yet – I adore Suffusion and cannot find one I like enough to change to, AND it will take days to make the change if and when I do find something workable. That site is a portfolio site and is loaded with stuff.

I really miss the proper Jetpack for those two sites, because those are the two that can really use all the neat toys Jetpack offers. But that is where I’m up to with Adventures with WordPress. ??

I have just tried changes themes on my scififangirl.rabidhorse.com site, and that seems to have changed things. Will play some more with it (not much, must work), but perhaps it is an incompatible theme issue.

GoDaddy has replied, saying they do not keep error logs. They did provide some code I could use to enable some kind of error logging, but, quote:

CAUTION: The code samples we provide below do not constitute a complete web.config file. Do not replace your existing web.config file with the code we provide. Before changing your web.config file, we recommend creating a backup.

I do not want to mess with stuff and have to redo everything.

I have sent a private update to you, I hope you can help!
