I too had a similar issue. Unfortunately for me it was something completely different causing the issue. When I went into the themes page it would say “style.css file unreadable“

I tried EVERYTHING to fix it…

Turns out it was something VERY simple. I had somehow listed “root” as the file owner!! Therefore the normal user wasn’t able to see the file as root owner comes with restrictions.

You’ll need to use WinSCP or SSH to fix this, I don’t think it can be done via FTP.

I just thought I would throw my 2 bits in here in case someone else has the same issue as me.

I wanted to update this post with a potential resolution.

1) I found out through trial and error that IE and Mozilla (FF and Safari) were pulling the header background data from seperate CSS files.

This caused the issue as the one that the Mozilla browsers were pulling was indeed a corrupted image.

2) I fixed the MENU css problems by linking directly to the files using the full URL

I want the countless hours I spent fighting this back please ??

I have done some more testing.

I fixed the CSS issues by linking to the css files and images on a seperate server. (Crappy work around but at least it is working)

It appears that the files are ONLY corrupted when loaded VIA WordPress.

I am now hosting the images on a separate server and they work fine when accessed directly!! However when loading through WordPress and Mozilla browser the file gets corrupted. What is going on here?

Regarding issue #2 I think I may have tracked down the core issue. It appears that the WP install is not finding files from the wp-content/themes/freshy2 directory.

I have cut and paste a large section of the error log.

It is looking for these files in the wrong place. I can add them in the /images directory but it should be looking for them within the freshy 2 directory.
