In reply to: Major website issues…not sure what to do nextOk I’m back for more!
So I’ve made some progress. I’ve installed the plugin Theme Check and ran it against the theme that we were using. It’s kicking out a lot of warnings which I assume can be left as is, but it also is producing the following required errors. Is this something you think a novice can tackle as far as trying to fix it or should I just scrap it and start over?
REQUIRED: The theme uses the register_taxonomy() function, which is plugin-territory functionality.
REQUIRED: The theme uses the register_post_type() function, which is plugin-territory functionality.
REQUIRED: The theme doesn’t have post pagination code in it. Use posts_nav_link() or paginate_links() or the_posts_pagination or next_posts_link() and previous_posts_link() to add post pagination.
REQUIRED: The <title> tags can only contain a call to wp_title(). Use the wp_title filter to modify the output
REQUIRED: framework/plug-ins/portfolio/lib/wp-framework/Base.php. Themes should use add_theme_page() for adding admin pages.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Major website issues…not sure what to do nextOk I think the theme I am using may be the issue.
I removed all the site files, uploaded 4.1 and was able to login to the admin panel.
I then uploaded my theme folder and when I attempt to activate it the site stops responding….just goes to a white screen.
Is it common for themes to not be compatible with newer versions of WordPress?

In reply to: Major website issues…not sure what to do nextI’ve been trying to locate the best way to restore and I don’t seem to be able to find anything for the “core” files, just the MySQL db.
When restoring from a ftp backup do I delete all the files that are on the server then just upload the local copy?

In reply to: Major website issues…not sure what to do nextuggghhh I just clicked the Theme I had been using to activate and now I can’t get back into the console.
I believe the site was in fact compromised in some way although I don’t know how to confirm that. There were quite a bit of spam posts and when you searched Google there were many links with our domain and Viagra type ads.

In reply to: Major website issues…not sure what to do nextyes that’s where I’m at now.
I believe I’ve restored to that. When I login it’s showing version 3.4 and all of my page data is back. However my theme does not appear to be working.

In reply to: Major website issues…not sure what to do nextThanks Konstantin. I updated the db now I can get back in.
What had caused this issue was going in to the Admin console and upgrading to the newest version of WordPress.
Any suggestions as to how to upgrade without causing issues?
Thanks for your help.

In reply to: Site not accessible after attempting updateYou know I did the steps you outlined to update and when it gets to the point where it is updating the database it stops and the site is not accessible again.
Is there a problem possibly with the mySQL database on the server?
I’ve restored again back to 3.4.
Any thoughts?

In reply to: Site not accessible after attempting updateYes you were correct. I missed the index.php file and others within that directory.
The site is now at least back up but not sure if I should try the update again.
When I did it earlier I hadn’t updated the plugins. Would out of date plugins cause an error like that? I’ve since updated the plugins.

In reply to: Site not accessible after attempting updateThanks esmi….Followed those directions and still had issues with the new version.
I deleted everything except wp-content then copied over all the files and folders from a backup I had and now i can login but when i try and just go to the site it tells me “You don’t have permission to access / on this server.”
Should I attempt the update to 3.6.1 again?
