In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Can a Topic be set to have no categoryThanks again Mark. To report back, creating a draft or live post without using MyCurator does not automatically add an “uncategorized” tag. Only when we use MyCurator, the Search 2 keywords box is unchecked, and “No Tags” are selected in the drop-down menu.
To eliminate the tags, we created a topic with no keywords and hence no tags, so we are set for now.
Thanks, Merry Christmas, Jan

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Can a Topic be set to have no categoryThanks Mark.
I think I understand pretty well what the tag settings within topic settings should do. The Search 2 Keywords as Tags box has been unchecked the entire time and the No Tags option selected, BUT I swear an uncategorized tag is being created when using the Get It tool–I tried it with Saving to Training Page, Save to Draft, and Save to Draft and Edit.
Also, FYI, I tried deleting the uncategorized tag but then as soon as we add another post, it gets creating again not surprisingly.
For now, we are using a topic with no Search 2 keywords which results in no tags being applied. But it seems there is something amiss–perhaps because of compatibility issue with WordPress 4.4? We are using latest version of MyCurator.
Thanks, Jan

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Can a Topic be set to have no categoryOne other thing, for some reason, the tag “uncategorized” is also getting added to every post, even though “no tags” has been set in topic settings.
I don’t know what the previous settings were, but this is something I am pretty sure was not the case before recent changes.
Thanks, Jan

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Can a Topic be set to have no categoryUnderstood, thanks.
The person who has been working with this may be mistaken about the previous situation. Is it possible that was not the case in an earlier version of WordPress or MyCurator? I only ask because he works with MyCurator a lot and the unchecking is one more step in the process, but it seems WordPress brings the checked category to the top of the list so it should be manageable.
Thanks, Jan

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Removing topic made all training posts unusableThank you very much Mark. I will give that a try.
I may have been confused from an earlier situation where I needed to change the name. Anyway, in my haste I may have neglected to see that one can click on the name to edit.
Ok. Will try that. Thanks much, Jan
Ok. Unfortunately, checking the “do not copy to excerpt” setting in MyCurator messes things up. Instead of a nicely spaced column of excerpts with links to the full article, you get shorter excerpts without the links scrunched together.
So we will uncheck that setting. I guess what we need to do is edit both the main body of the post and the excerpt, which is a pain but should work.
But, for the RSS feed, I still don’t understand why it pulls from the excerpt field when set to “full content”, though it seems if it didn’t do that we would get something other than the main post–per above.
thanks, Jan
Thanks Mark. I replied once but I must not have posted properly.
Your comments and suggestions all make sense, and I expected that switching the Reading setting in WordPress from summary to “full text” would do it. I waited to make the setting change in MyCurator as an experiment.
Curiously, our RSS-fed email this morning contained the text from the excerpt that had been edited out of the main post, even though I made sure the settings were for “Content” not “Excerpts” in the theme settings, and “Full Text” not “Summary” in the general WP reading settings.
We have changed the setting in MyCurator to not copy to excerpt and will see what happens tomorrow.
Thanks, Jan

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Setting up Google News FeedsRelatedly, do you have any suggestions for working around sites without RSS feeds–eg, Bloomberg?

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Setting up multiple, related topicsMark, here’s an update on our experience thus far.
1. Using no keywords whatsoever seems to be a hard way to go. Training alone seems to not narrow articles enough or it takes a good while to do so. that’s true even if you just look at good articles but of course even worse if you want to check not sure or bad articles.
2, There doesn’t seem to be much benefit or advantage to dividing the search by topic, As you note, we get a lot of the same articles and that just adds steps and multiplies the total amount of articles we need to scroll through.
So, given the natural overlap among our topics, I’m wondering if there is any reason not to use just one primary topic to search all of our sources (leave first keyword field blank but combine lists for the 2nd keyword field). Will the relevance engine “learn” just as well if it is getting told that a somewhat broader mix of articles are “good”?
We could still have a secondary catch-all topic that we could continue to try to train without keywords, but we would have to do that just once not multiple times.
We would then organize the resulting round-up compilation of articles by appropriate topic at the end, rather than trying to do so from the beginning.
Does that sound about right? Thanks, Jan

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Where do Multi articles go?Ok. I think my issue may have been that some of the articles went to the multi-post for one topic and the post I made live was the lone multi article for another topic. Thanks for the reassurance that I understand this (mostly) right. Jan

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Older training posts staying on training pageThanks Mark, that makes sense. Will give run in background and see what happens.

In reply to: [MyCurator Content Curation] Older training posts staying on training pagePart of the reason this is particularly important:
I just read in the documentation how one can leave the filters blank and just use the relevance engine to fine-tune the search. This means we are generating a lot of articles to start
Side question: is there a limit to how many articles MyCurator will find? We set number of articles on training page to 100 but this seems to be articles PER page, not total. Thanks, Jan
