I had this issue and under Settings -> Reading there is a setting that said utf-7. When I changed it to utf-8 the setting disappeared.

Fixed my issue by adjusting the events options under permalink slugs. It was entered as “terrys-schedule’ and I adjusted it to ‘speaking/terrys-schedule’ and it works now.

Here is an example:

https://www.terryhershey.com/speaking/terrys-schedule

The page selected for the events is: terrys-schedule but the above URL (which is the permalink for the page) does not work. However, https://www.terryhershey.com/terrys-schedule does work.

wp_debug produces nothing.

I am having the same problem.
