The problem seems to have been caused by Lingotek. Deactivating the plugin allows me to save translated pages.

It seems that the pages aren’t actually being linked to each other. Both the original and translated pages have the ‘plus’ icon, instead of the edit icon for their opposite languages. Clicking the plus and creating a new page just adds a new page, that’s not linked.

I’ve managed to fix this. It turns out that one of the downloads that featured on page two had an invalid file which was causing an error.

I used those tags for taxonomy.php and archive.php.
