Sorry, I edited my last answer as the category shortcode worked after a few tries. Just refreshed the editor, saved again and now is showing the category items correctly.

I’m using Elementor, so I grabbed the “WPDM Downloads by Category” widget.

Seems that is working now. I had to update WordPress, then the plugin and reindex. After that, it started working.
