for anyone else out there that might have this same problem it ended up being a plugin. The robots meta plugin, it has an area that disables all monthly (and other) archives that I didn’t know was checked. Simple fix for a frustrating problem.

It is also not a theme issue. I put it back to the default wordpress theme and the monthly archives don’t work with that theme either????

By the way, I tried putting the permalinks back to the default and they still didn’t work. The links look correct, i.e. on my domain it would be https://www.scottfillmer.com/2008/08 for august of this year and it just redirects back to the main index page. Tags and category links work fine.

this issue is still not resolved. I have changed theme, tried using default permalinks, nothing works. Please let me know if anyone knows how I can fix my monthly archives so they will work, thanks.

no custom 404 yet, just a clean install. Weird, I changed it to the %post_id% then back to the %postname% and now it seems to be working? Don’t get it. Almost like the permalinks have to propagate through the system or something before they work?

If anyone else can click on the blog and see if they work from there end that would be great, thanks.

ok, when I use the custom structure /%post_id%/ it works

but when the /%postname%/ is used it doesn’t work? That means my .htaccess file is working?

This seems to be the case with all the archive pages also. If you click on the category “uncategorized” it is the same thing, because it isn’t rendering the permalinks correctly.

Yes, permalink structure was /%postname%/ does that matter? It was the default wp chose.

Never could get anything to work, had to delete all blog files, upload wp 2.5 and install on different database, now it is working. Doesn’t mean it was fixed?

I found this to be a problem with the podpress plugin? I have not had the problem when I deactivated the plugin. Of course I want to use the plugin and the images? Any suggestions, I can’t seem to get any response from the plugin author.

I am continually getting a yahoo error, using wp 2.3.1 and had to roll back to sitemap 3.0b10
