In reply to: Users appearing in list but not registeringI’ve been slow getting back to you because I am not 100% sure of the answer! We have only the one online product on the site. When buyers click Buy, they get the paywall text box and pay via the plugin. They then receive a password to access the paid content. They can log in using their email address and this password.
Guess that means they don’t have to be registered users? I feel really dumb not to be able to answer this but we haven’t yet had anyone buy the product using this payment system! Is there something else I can do to figure this out for you?
As for users getting in via FTP, yikes!

In reply to: Users appearing in list but not registeringThanks for replying. I have Akismet installed, but not activated – I was a bit nervous about doing so. I will activate it, however, if it can help.
“Anyone can register” is checked. Realize that lets bad guys spam register, but we sell the product from the site so not sure what to do about this.
Also, my email spam filter does send all the spam contact form replies into Junk mail (all Russian) where I just delete them.
Question: How does someone get in our User list without my registering them? There is no sign up registration form, just the Contact Form which doesn’t make someone a new user. Sorry if this is pretty basic!
Thanks again for your help!

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteResult: heard back from the Page.ly plugin guys. Apparently, the problem is that we have <span> tags in the HTML content on the 3 pages with the issue. The plugin creator said that leaving them alone until we could get technical help to remove the tags without changing the page design would not cause any functionality issues on the site. So that’s what I’ll do.
Thanks for your help here in leading me to the plugin that was causing the problem. That allowed me to troubleshoot further with the plugin developers, who were responsive and helpful as well.

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteI’ve just emailed Pagely, the plugin developers, to see if they can help with this. Will post back when I hear from them. It is must be some kind of plugin conflict if deactivating it solves the problem (but can’t be done since it’s critical to the site’s appearance!).

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteCouldn’t wait any longer … all plugins deactivated, checked site, and only deactivating that critical-to-site-function page.ly one corrected the issue. Phooey!

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteSome additional info that might (?) be relevant: this issue occurs only on the final 3 of our 7 pages: Buy, Pro Shop and FAQ. The first 4 pages don’t have the text showing up there at all.

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteesmi, I posted first then read yours – sorry. I’ll go in and de-activate them all and re-activate one at a time as you first suggested. Think I’d better wait until after business hours as this site is our business!

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteOh,yikes. Just checked and site was virtually gone without that plugin. No content; just titles so guess it’s critical.
Hmm. So simple isn’t going to do it. Any thoughts on next step?

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteThanks, esmi. I’d begun with one at a time before I saw your advice. By the 5th plugin … AHA! Issue disappeared when Page.ly MultiEdit Version 0.9.8.3 was de-activated!
Should I try all of them now and then re-activate just that one to be sure?
If site works fine without Page.ly, do I just leave it de-activated?

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteGulp. Okay, I know you’re right, esmi, and I am trying to learn.
Clarification: Do I do the steps sequentially? I mean, deactivate one plug in at a time; check; reactivate; go to next; repeat; then, if plugins are not the issue, switch to a default theme?
Do I do anything with plugins when I switch or are they just part of my current custom theme?
I will start with 1 plugin and check back in before proceeding. I do want to fix this and do appreciate the willing help – I’m just nervous.

In reply to: How to make blog visible on site?First, Moderator, I’m so sorry: got intent on what I was doing and forgot about the code instructions (which I had read about) as I’d never posted code in here before. I will re-post the code correctly if any helper needs it.
vestimir: I realize that’s exactly the issue. The site was custom designed, and migrated to WordPress from an HTML site a year later. He did create it with just the 7 tabs. Guess I’m kind of stuck. If the design weren’t such a good one, I’d start all over but we get very positive feedback on his design.
As for backup, you’re right and thanks for the reminder. I learned how to backup the site when I upgraded to 3.6 and I copy all code onto a new “draft” page before I play with it. It’s too easy to mess up – and not so easy to fix, as a newbie!!

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteThank you. One further question since I’m nervous about switching themes: would my workaround work – if sub-title issue could be solved?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteAs a P.S., if I copy all the code onto a fresh page, it solves the issue. The only reason I haven’t just done that to work around the problem is that I don’t know how to re create existing “sub titles” since the new pages I create don’t have the “title tab” which the flawed pages do (eg. FAQ sub-title is “Questions & Answers About Go For The Green Selling Challenge”.

In reply to: Text showing up in weird places in Edit page but not on siteOh. No, I haven’t. Happy to try if it will help, however.
Question: What would the “default theme” be? The guy who created our site in WordPress (moving it from an HTML site) didn’t use a WordPress theme. He, unfortunately, is no longer available and I am sure new to this!

In reply to: How to make blog visible on site?P.S vestimir: I had read about Menus before, but there is no Menu option under Appearance on my dashboard. Just Themes, Customize, Editor.
