It all depends on your choice whether you want to set up subdomain or subdirectory. SEO works well for both od them. I prefer to make subdirectories then follow all the basic SEO processes.

Have you established connection with database by using SQL?

If you are installing WordPress then you need to create SQL DB connection @localhost.
