    Stefan,

I took your cue and re-wrote my evaluation to a five star!

I will soon be re-setting the sizes of my other slideshows accordingly.

NEXT: I need to learn how to re-set the indent to CENTER or RIGHT side of page. With the smaller slide box I now use (350 pixel), I have a large void of space on the right side of the page next to the slideshow. Any hints? I’ll check the forum for this subject tomorrow as well. Thanks for helping me get out of this quandry!

I’m not sure what you mean by the admin. I’m a newer user of WordPress during the past 4 months. By admin, do you mean the media library? Could you be a little more specific about where I can find another area that controls the slideshow maximum width?
    Thanks.

    Stefan,

Thanks for writing back. I’ve been desperately waiting for weeks to get this fixed! Here is where one of the slideshows appears: https://murderproductions.com/about/ceo-president/.
I have tried to enter triple digit pica numbers on the maximum width line to no avail. I’ve used a 100, 300, 600, 700, etc, but none of those do a single thing to make the containing element smaller.

Your help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Stefan,

Thank you for your response, but I don’t know how to re-set the maximum width setting for the slideshow! I have deleted the ZERO and entered a ONE. No luck, so I tried a 4, no luck. I am literally shooting in the dark without knowing what number scale to use to reduce the width of the slideshow. I can never make the width of the slideshow any smaller.

When I said shrinking the size of the slides in my first note, I meant every word literally. I must have SMALLER photos presented in the slideshow.
But right now, in the single photo format, my photos are HUGE! I want the width of the slide show smaller. But there is a zero entered in on slideshow width, and I don’t know what other numbers to type in there to make the whole slideshow smaller. I am using IE9 for this website on wordpress. https://www.murderproductions.com/about/ceo-president (The slideshow is about a half page down.)
Please give me a tip on what number might make the total width of the show about 70% of the current size. Thank you.

In response to tosteino’s comment, let me clarify:
I am now using Light Box 2 which is not the same as “Standard Galleries”. The enlarged pages are beautiful compared to all the junk and writing and garbage on the standard WP galleries.
One of my galleries is 115 photos long! My other 5 galleries range from 30 to 60 photos each. I was able to sort all the thumbnails in very quick order – a matter of about 4 hours. Compare THAT to all the time everyone is wasting on NextGen or other programs. Open your mind and give a hundred photos a try…you’ll see what I mean. Just thought I would try to help rescue all the others that are as frustrated with the UNFINISHED software design of NextGen.

I HAVE A SOLUTION FOR ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH NEXTGEN thumbnail sorting!

After dozens and dozens of wasted hours on the forum and trial and error remedies recommended by many, I finally bit the bullet and found a contractor who knows Word Press on “Fivver” and he solved my whole problem by installing “Light Box 2” on my WP blog. This plugin lets you create a gallery right on a page with an option to use photos as “Media” or “Attachments”.

Once you setup your gallery within a page, all you have to do is click on the highlighted rectangle and then click in the upper left corner unto the little photo icon. That immediately opens your gallery to the “Edit” or “Add” function. And here is the real magic I’ve been waiting so long for: simply click and drag your thumbnail icons to the new position you want on the entire gallery listings, and with a little jiggling in the white spaces between photos, you will see thumbnails jump around a little within the same vicinity. When they do so, just drop your thumbnail into one of the white spaces that opens up and let go! But, you can still click on it again and slide it around a little to trade places with other nearby thumbnails. This action is sometimes slightly quirky, but at least you now have total control over where to locate your thumbnail files! BUT…be sure to keep “inserting” your gallery, and then push “Update” on your page controls to save the order you just arranged. If you don’t insert or update it, you didn’t save it and you’ll have to start all over again. My advice is to experiment by creating only a 9 photo gallery using 3 thumbnails per row. After 5 minutes of clicking and dragging and jiggling the mouse around, you’ll discover the “personality” of this edit program. I have now deleted NextGen from my plugins.

I have the same problem! I tried using a triple digit system to organize 125 thumbnails. Number one being 001, and upwards to 125. BUT, NextGen marches to a different drummer – it doesn’t look at number sequences in the usual way.
So then I tried an alphabet system. Number one being AAA, number two being AAB, etc. This does not work either!
I liked NextGen at first, but now I’m having to re-think a solution to listing thumbnails in a pre-set order. Any answers out there?

Is there an easy way to name the caption for each photo? I have 125 thumbnails, but they all need a caption typed at the bottom. I cannot find any insert function that works.

Also, I did my first page with all symmetrical and evenly shaped square thumbnails, but my last 4 pages where I entered NextGen have loaded all the .jpg photos according to actual proportions which makes a very sloppy looking gallery. DO I have to erase my whole uploaded gallery and then start again from scratch? Where is the toggle switch from standardardized thumbnail sizes to custom?
Any help would be appreicated. Thanks.

I’m wondering if your plugin works with Internet Explorer 9?
That might explain why I’m not seeing certain commands or options with this particular plugin.
Well, I’ve run out of time and I will need to get my thumbnails project done today one way or the other.

I’ve spent a bit of time reading the front article and the page about shortcodes. I have the TinyMCE toolbar installed, and your plugin ICON shows up on the toolbar. But when I click on it and look for a “PAGE THUMBNAIL GALLERY” or anything remotely close to it, there isn’t any.

After continuing on researching all the instructions, it does appear that all of the functionality of this plugin only seems to apply to SIDE WIDGETS. I need to show a page full of thumbnails that can be invidually clicked on to blow-up into a readable size, then back down again to the page of thumbnails.
I have gone through all of the instructional pages and your forum, but quite frankly, nothing tells me about a thumbnail gallery on a “page”. I was really hoping I could get this plugin to suit my needs before having to off digging into the internet for some other program. I have a deadline, and not more than a couple of days left.
Thanks for whatever additional help you can offer!

    Hi,
I just uploaded your plug-in but am having trouble getting the codes to show up in “page” format. I checked the widget area and they all show up there…but isn’t there a way to get a gallery of thumbnails to show up on a page? All I want is the capability to click on a thumbnail (reference letters) and then be able to read the full letter at a readable, larger size – like about 650 or 700 pica. Then
a keystroke to return back to the thumbnail gallery near the point where I left off. I have about 97 thumbnails to display.
I don’t want or need any slideshow actions…although a “top ten” hihglights in the widget sidebar piqued my curiosity when I saw that this program can do that!

Please let me know how to get this plugin running in the page format. I’m sort of new to WordPress and this is my first website.
My website page location is murderproductions/wordpress/referrals. Thanks for your help.

I did exactly as you instructed, found the official ID number, and Voila! Works like a dream! In fact, I even went back to photoshop and resized more of the photos so they all fill the new 480 pica space perfectly.

    Thanks for your help.
My next challenge will be inserting video into the slideshow, but I’m sure I have lots of editing in front of me to make the videos a compliant file format

Thanks for your response! In view of the spacing and balancing problem with slide photos, I bit the bullet and re-formatted the sizes on my photos in Photoshop by adding a black margin on photos that were not close to being a square. It only took about 20 minutes, and now I think everything works fine! Check it out and see what you think. I think the slide program works great.

My next big challenge is trying to get the larger slideshow program to show up in the middle of a page. I read your forum where IE9 presents problems, and this must be why the slide program doesn’t show up on my website after I enter that code you gave to other folks. I won’t be able to get back to working on this until another 4 days. Thanks for your help up to now!

I removed the stretch feature and that solved the width issue on a couple of photos. However, the height feature now seems to be the challenge with getting the photos to look right.

Note: All of my photos are larger than the window size of the widget for slideshow. I wish I had control of a cropping tool so I could select the best part of each photo to use. The current cropping tool I get when I click on the edit function of photos is always a faded out icon – meaning that it is not useable. Thanks for your follow-up.
