The only thing we didnt mess with were the themes and this is next. Yes, we did disable/enable all of the plugins with no luck. Our last resort is to update to the latest release in hopes that will work.

Would a plugin kill the blog out of nowhere? Nothing was touched and poof, the blog went down. Doesn’t make any sense.

Within WordPress.com Stats plugin, the section “Clicks” gives you data on the # of times a link was clicked within your post. To make sure we are on the same page, if you link to a site other than yours in a blog post, the # of times that link is clicked will show up under the above section. At least it should…

For anyone following this, I have figured out how to use the snippets. It’s very simple and I completely overlooked the answer.

When you are creating a new post, after you finish, click the “HTML” tab. After you determine where you would like your post to cut off, simple add <!–more–> after the last word you would like to see in the snippet. This will add a “Read the rest of this entry” link at the end of the snippet and link to the full post. Just make sure you add this tag under the HTML tab in your content.

This will help resolve duplicate content on your blog.

Hello… any help here???

I’ve downloaded and installed Advanced Excerpt but still cannot figure out if the plugin can use images in the excerpt. I’ve tried looking on the author’s site and found nothing. Am I trying to do something that is not possible? Sometimes I need an image to display as a teaser to lead people to the site.

Tech, useshots is saying that if you go to the post, the comments display fully without having to click anything. If you view your posts from a category or homepage, where more then 1 post is shown, the comments will not display by default. You have to click the comments 1, comments 2, etc. link.

As for how to display full comments while on a category or homepage with multiple posts, i have no answer for that.

Are you trying to use the alt tags for optimization purposes? If so, start naming your images using keywords so that both the image and the alt tag will match and you’ll be optimizing your images for the search engines.

Thanks for the tip. What is the level of difficulty in creating a custom page template for the home page? I am not advanced with modifying the templates.

Additional: After modifying the template, I like the layout. I see […] at the end of all the posts now. How do I turn that into a link or add a “read more” link to the end?

Also, after implementing this, I lost all of the images, even if you click the actual article. Is there a way to fix this and include images in the snippets and/or the actual article other then creating a custom template page for the homepage?

I am familiar with robots.txt. Where do you put this file in the blog code? I tend to get confused about where to find things within the blog.

As the robots.txt is a good tool, I am also interested in no-following certain pages. I am still looking for help with this. Thanks for the replies so far.

I understand how to use a nofollow for a regular site, but i was more curious how to do it from within WordPress. The site you included doesnt seem to be catered to WordPress, unless I missed something…

Thats exactly what im looking to do Gangleri. I thought I set up the blog to show snippets but it doesnt seem to be working the way i thought or I made a mistake somewhere. Can you refer me to an place that can help me with this? While on this topic, I am concerned about writing a post and associating it with more then 1 category. Is anyone seeing any duplicate content penalties by linking to multiple categories?

Udayns, Im not sure how that would be possible unless the content was not deemed duplicate or the search engines haven’t caught up to it yet or the search engine deemed the duplicate content on the page your saw more credible. Duplicate content is a major issue with search engines, especially in recent years. Lots of software has been developed to prevent it from happening. It happens inadvertently in blogs b/c of the many different categories you can link a post to. Each category you link to creates a different URL pointing to the same content. This is considered duplicate content.

By duplicate content, I am speaking in terms of search engine optimization. It means that you have more then one link with different URL’s (from categories, from topics, etc.) pointing to the same content. The above example from gangleri can be used as well.

The problem with this is that search engines penalize your pages if duplicate content is detected. For example, if you write an article and submit it to an article submission site with out any modifications from the article that is posted on your site, to the article that is posted on the article submission site, the search engine can deem your content as duplicate content. This will effect your article showing up in the search engine rankings thus limiting traffic to your site or blog.
