    THANK YOU!

I had already tried clearing my cookies, but retried to make sure – didn’t work.

I disabled the plugins and BINGO! I got right in. I’m not sure which plugin was the problem (or which were active, for that matter). If/when I narrow it down, I’ll be sure to post the warning for others.

You may not have encouraged it, but you did say that I couldn’t do want to do with categories alone and that’s the only other option that I know of (outside of not including posts relating to the project on the project page, but that’s not an option in my mind). I have several years of history (and sites linking to and dozens of files uploaded to) my current file convention (domain.com/portfolio/type/project/). I could just use “portfolio” as the category base, but the plan is that the majority of the blog would discuss things other than my portfolio, including other people’s work in the field.

hmmm, maybe wordpress isn’t the right software for me afterall. Must hunt down coffee before figuring this out ??

yeah, that’s what I thought/feared. I’d make “portfolio” the category base, but that won’t be true for most of the blog and is one of the reasons why I’m not just making “portfolio” and “typeA”/”typeB” categories. (grrr, why must I be so insistant on sticking with the convention I’ve already established ;)).

So, pages are the best way for me to go for the projects and then I could just pull the appropriate category posts onto them. And, hmmm, I could probably put a redirect on the specific category archive (for the project related categories). Something to try tomorrow.

    Thanks for your help!

That makes perfect sense. It is a bit labor intensive, though not terribly so. I’ll give it a go until I find a more dynamic solution. Surely with all the php wizards around this place, there’s someone that knows how it can be done. Someone?

As for the sidebar: I prefer a seperate template. I tend to break stuff when I mess with it. Better to just break one bit than the whole bit.

Thanks much for your help… at least I have something to get me going for a bit.
