@esmi: I followed through the 4 steps exactly as you said. After step 4, site is offline (libraliyya.org) but when I visit: https://libraliyya.org/wp-admin/ the admin dashboard looks normal except there are NO themes installed.

I did try to rename themese-old back to just themes and plugins.hold back to plugins but when I did that, I get the same error message as the one I pasted above in my second comment.

So, awaiting further instructions and just so that I am exactly at the point where you leave off at step 4, I renamed themes to themes-old again and plugins to plugins.hold. As I said in the beginning of this message, main site is blank page and admin dashboard page looks fine but no themes.

@esmi: IN step 3, that fresh WP download, should it be 3.3 or 3.2.1? I assume the latter since in step 4 you recommend re-running the upgrade.

Also, in step 2, when I click on the provided link and choose to rename the plugins folder should I switch back to plugins from plugins.hold after step 4 above?

Right. There was some missmatch. Now it seems fine. Should I go ahead and now upgrade to 3.3? Or will I face the same problem as I did this morning?

The theme on the front page is Caroline, though in the themes section it claims that the current theme is Twenty Ten. Other than that discrepancy, it still says upgrade to 3.3. How do I proceed from here? Thanks for your patience.

But when I renamed the directory to themes instead of themes-old, the site is back on but I am now at version 3.2.1 and it is back to saying to upgrade to 3.3. Should I go ahead an upgrade?

OK, thanks. I have gone through all the steps exactly as you said. But now the site gives a blank page: libraliyya.org. Is there something else I need to do? Do I rename the themes directory to just themes instead of themes-old? Appreciate you help.

Also, after doing step 2, I can see my dashboard fine now. Just no themes at all I am guessing because I renamed it to themes-old.

@esmi: Thank you. I am done with steps 1 and 2 but am worried about step 3. If I upload the entire WP 3.3, that wouldn’t affect my blog posts, pages, etc content and will also retain the previous blog layout when I switch back to my normal template?

Also, since in step 1 I renamed the themes folfer to themes-old, I shouldn’t worry about the fresh WP upload since it won’t replace the already renamed themes directory, right?

Finally, after step three, should I delete the newly uploaded themese directory and rename the old themes-old directory back to themes?
