  • The problem is back, with a vengence. Access is sporadic at best. At worst, it takes five or six attempts just to get a blog page to render.

I’m also getting “connection dropped” errors now.

I addressed a message to Flavio, but got someone else. She has tried to be helpful, but it’s obvious that she doesn’t know much about the technical aspects of server management.

A new wrinkle was a request for my database and other admin passwords. To the best of my knowledge, these would not be necessary for someone (in their Engineering Department) with superuser access to the server.

I guess I’m going to have to just bite the bullet and switch to another provider.

Is anyone else having problems again?

    Tons of happy clients?

    Not any more….

The first time I checked my blog this morning I got the error page again. I hit reload and now it *seems* to be OK.

Since I sent two messages on Sunday, I received two replies, the first from the Flavio who is mentioned in other threads here (I assume) and the second from a Chloe. Their messages were slightly different from the above, but the case number is exactly the same.

(By the way, what is an “ETA” for a problem? I’d say it is already here!)

    CORRECTION: It’s down again.

It’s 6:54 Monday morning here and I just checked my blog for the first time: It’s back up. (As are the others linked to above.) I can get into the database using the admin tool, so it looks like they fixed whatever was wrong. Will try to keep a close eye on it through the day, though.

No email response from Yahoo! yet; it would be nice if some sort of explanation were in the pipe.

    And so it goes….

Um, lacking any personal experiential referent for that (no piercings anywhere), I’ll have to rely on my imagination and say you’ve got a point. ??

I’m finding it hard to believe that only four of us are experiencing this problem…?!

I’ve sent two messages now through their “Contact us” link. Probably no one on duty over the weekend. Give it another day, I guess.

Yahoo! Small Business user here, too.

My blog was fine this morning when I got up around 6:00. By 9:00 it was on the blink. I made no changes to the website whatsoever in the interim. (I was out on an errand; how could I?!)

This is definitely a Yahoo! server issue. Nothing on the site using MySQL works at all (WordPress, PhpMyAdmin, phpBB, MediaWiki, my own scripts).

What’s really strange is that on another site also hosted on Yahoo!, all of the above are running fine. (?!?)

It has been obvious to me for a while now that web hosting is just a minor side business for Yahoo! (or at least, that’s how they act!) but have been willing to overlook the limitations on what they allow you to do with your site because (in my case at least) they’ve usually gotten problems cleared up within a few hours at most.

If this continues, though, it looks like I am going to have to consider overcoming my natural inertia and start shopping around.

Edit: I’m in Japan, by the way, so a long, drawn out call to their support is not something I really want to think about!
