I did call Apple and they found every excuse why it wasn’t their fault, even though my testing seemed to indicate otherwise. I even escalated it and talked with a higher level of tech support. I explained that the problem occurred about the same time that Apple pushed out an OS update. They continued to deny it was their problem. About two weeks later, the problem mysteriously went away, right after Apple made a minor update. Now it’s working correctly just as it had for years. Somebody fixed something and it wasn’t me and there was no update to WordPress or the player plugin.
I’m not sure why, but the putting the mp3 file on the hosting server is now working. I’m not sure why the delay. I didn’t change anything since this morning. I’ve tried changing the HTML5 player this evening and it still isn’t working. I’ll try it again later. I don’t understand why the Compact Audio Player was working fine for 4 years with the files at Dropbox and just a couple weeks ago, it stopped working. We didn’t change anything and it still works fine on Android and Windows. I may go to an Apple store and talk with the “geniuses” since it seems to be not working only on Apple devices unless the audio files are on the same server as the wordpress. A change in Apple security?
Thank you for your assistance.I uploaded it to the website media. It still won’t work. I did notice that there was a WordPress update to 5.7 this morning. That didn’t help either.
I believe I did and do have the correct shortcode link.
As I’ve said before, it won’t work with a generic HTML5 player either. I’m not convinced that it is a problem with your player. Does your player use flash and hasn’t flash been de-implemented? Could Apple have disabled the use of flash in their OS?[sc_embed_player_template1 fileurl=”https://dl.dropbox.com/s/6y9dtfnz0oafg0c/GMH_02_16_21_P1.mp3″%5D
It seems very simple. Our shows are stored in Dropbox. This works fine on Android and Windows, just not on iOS.More information
I added the Compact Audio Player to a simpler web page, https://huntleyradio.com/hcr/volunteer-2/. I also added a simple HTML5 audio player and a direct link to an mp3 audio file. The direct link plays on the iOS device, the Audio Player and HTML5 players do not. I’ve tried 5 browsers, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Brave and Google Chrome on an iPad. None of them will play the file in the Compact Audio Player on iOS, but they will open and play the “Test Audio” file on that page. Both work fine on Android and Windows. I’m suspecting something in iOS but there should be many users having this same issue.Nothing has changed on the site that would affect the audio player. There are show podcasts added to many pages regularly. The Apple devices don’t work on any of the pages, even those that haven’t been changed. I have used an iPad for testing to try to identify the problem. That iPad is running the latest iOS version, which was updated a couple weeks ago, maybe around the time that the player stopped working. I have tested the player with Windows 10 and various Android devices. They still work fine.
We are running version 1.9.6 of the player and WordPress version 5.6.2. Our site is hosted at GoDaddy. I haven’t checked with them about any recent changes.
