  • Looking forward to the new version… Will test quickly as soon as you are ready…
    Thanks again!

    Thanks!

Sorry I missed that post… I should be able to put it together from that…

Do you think that I am planning on using your plug-in somewhat in the way you intend it to be used? Seems like the shortcodes are more about displaying all terms…

    Just curious…

Thanks again… I am off to sleep for now…

    Best,

    Hi Michael,
Wow! Thanks for the fast and thoughtful reply! I actually see your well made point and wholly agree.
I know how getting sidetracked can be… Good luck getting the next V done…
I know I am probably missing something obvious, but where would I find a description for how to add code to my theme (“Genesis Framework” custom child theme) to display just the image similar to the way another plug-in (that I wish to replace with yours) is displaying the “people mag” image here

In the example, I am using a custom tax called “media-publication” where the specific category is “people magazine” (slug:people)… The post shown has “people” as it’s sole category…

Thanks in advance, and i reiterate how impressed I am by your quick and thoughtful (good) answer…

    Best,

    Hugh

    Hi Michael,

Any ETA on your new version? I would be happy to test…

Love it so far… Especially the simplicity…

Can you share a sentence or 2 about your rationale for storing the “pairs” in the wp_option table versus other methods (e.g custom table(s))?

I am a tad more warm and fuzzy about the idea of having the pairs accessible from a table in the event that the plugin becomes obsolete/incompatible… Your thinking might make me more comfortable… I am potentially investing a TON of man hours building out the taxonomy on this plug-in for a client and need some path to salvation…

Thanks again for the great work!

Never mind… Found it in the settings… DOH! RTFM…

Thanks Rev.! Really appreciate the reply…

I think I will also need to change the post template to include the custom fields etc. from the custom posts… The trick will be to figure out how to do the template so that it accomodates both post types and provides the content in the structure desired…

    Thanks again!

In our case the formatting of the posts on the front end would be slightly different (more structured)…

    Bump…

We have the exact same requirement… We would ideally like to use a custom post template on the back end and have those posts share categories with and “comingle” with the “standard” post types in the loop…

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

Same Error for me on the Store Locator Plugin… Any thoughts?

While I have not tried them, the following 2 plugins also seem to fit the requested feature set, have good ratings, and are current…

I could be missing the point here, but I use PHPlist and the PHPlist plugin to accomplish everything requested… This solution requires some learning curve. It should be trivial for anyone that can install WP, build/mod themes, and/or write any PHP at all.
Phplist allows for infinite custom fields, does great mailing list management, has good built-in double-opt-in capabilities, and let’s you decide if/when you want emails to be sent when someone registers…
There is also a pretty active developer/user support forum and like WP it is free/GNU open source…
The only thing really lacking is some simplification on the install/config and tighter integration with WP…

In my case, snipi automatically adds images to my library through there WP plugin . This plugin creates it’s own generic (25094.jpg) filename. I simply want to rename the file without affecting the meta or location etc…
I can also anticipate at least a few instances where someone uploaded a file with a generic name and wants to change the name of the file to something meaningful (without having to upload it again)…
My bigger question is “what is the theory behind preventing this from happening?” It seems so trivial to do technically speaking…
    HH

I agree. This is a super important capability. It would work really nicely in combination with the snipi plugin which inexplicably does not allow the user to define the filename for images when they are grabbed…

    Anyone have a suggestion?

    Hi Kafkaesqui,

WOW! You are such a kind soul to invest so much time and energy to help… I appreciate your efforts so very much!

You have given me several paths to pursue now that I know the “standard” query works for you…

My comments template is attached at the bottom of this post. I am using the “paged-comments” plugin which is fantastic and really needed in my usage (guestbook)… I have the appropriate ‘echo’ statement stuffed into the template without formatting just to see if it will display… No luck… I also added the php ‘echo’ to the standard WP comment template without success…

I am going to spend my time chasing the DB error referred to in my previous post. My suspicion is that my template and the php ‘echo’ call are correct, but the DB is failing to join the new table appropriately and therefore none of the records in the new _extra table can be echo’d…

Your kindness has warmed my heart on this cold day…

    Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply Kafkaesqui!

I did test your suggestion prior to my previous post without luck. Just tried it again with a couple of variants ( <?php echo $comment->extra_commentcity; ?> )…
It is partially true that my question is plugin specific, and I would appreciate a plugin specific answer, BUT, the more broad question still remains: “What is required to simply “echo” a particular non-wpdb database record? I would assume that this is done frequently and that there must be a simple description somewhere in the codex or in the forums… Yes?

It just occured to me to have a look at my SQL logs to see if there was any insight there. I found the following error in my “operations” area:

PMA Database … not OK[ Documentation ]
    General relation features Disabled

Since the “comments_extra” table is a seperate and distinct table in the WPDB (linked by comment_ID) it occurs to me that the above error message may be the culprit. The documentation on the error is poor AND over my head… I will chase this issue directly with my hosting service, but I would still appreciate input from the forum if there is any to be had.

    Thanks in advance!
