    Hi Ben,

thanks for fixing the problem with the Modified Date Label field. In version 2.0.9 it works as it should.

However, the two fields after the MDL field do not work properly yet. Here is still the same bug as described in the previous post.

If it previously looked as if the processing of the meta fields would abort before the MDF, it now gives the impression that it happens after this and everything that comes after is no longer taken into account or displayed correctly. This means that the value of the Category Label Field and the setting of the Enable Comments switch are still not taken into account.

Maybe you can take another look at it.

    Hi @hannahritner,

    thanks for your feedback.

I’m a little amazed that the problem does not seem to be reproducible on your side.

It doesn’t seem to be a cache problem, because if I change the other two fields (“Author Label” & “Date Label”) at the same time, both fields change, only a change in the “Modified Date Label” field has no effect after saving. The theme used doesn’t seem to be the cause either, tested with Kadence, Astra, Hello Elementor.

So I made a new, clean WordPress installation, only with the Kadence Blocks plugin, to see if it could be reproduced there. And yes it does.

I have made a few pictures for illustration:

I have updated all fields with the respective name as content. Everything is adjusted accordingly in the preview in the editor.

    Image 2:

This is what it looks like on the website after saving. The fields Modified Date Label, Categories Label & the display of the comments were not adopted

    Image 3:

After reloading the editor view: The Modified Date Label field has the default value again. The Categories Label Field has adopted the new value, but it is not displayed on the website and the Enable Comments switch is back to the standard setting “off”.

Test environment: Fresh installation of WordPress Version 5.7.2, Twenty Twenty-One Theme, Kadence Blocks 2.0.8. No further plug-ins or modifications.

After doing some research on this, I found a snippet of code that can be used to hide Astra’s “read more” so that only the “read more” of Kadence Blocks remains.

And also a setting in the theme with which the length of the excerpt can be set globally. That at least helps, even if it would of course be great to have an option to set this individually in the current posts block. Maybe there will be the possibility to add the function in one of the future updates.

Thanks again for the help and the thought-provoking impulse, to look for the problem at the theme and no longer at the blocks.

Thanks for testing it in your environment, @mchildress

After this could not be reproduced, I went looking for causes and found that this is apparently caused by the Astra theme.

Attached is a screenshot of how it’s shown in my environment (which is identical to yours except for the theme).

As a test, I activated the standard WordPress themes “Twenty Twenty & Twenty Twenty One” and, alternatively, the “Hello Elementor” theme. This phenomenon does not occur in any of these. So it seems to be due to the Astra theme that this additional link appears.

Now what’s the best course of action here? Does something have to be adjusted with Kadence Blocks in order to filter this special case in combination with the Astra theme, or do I have to contact the guys from Brainstorm Force to have something changed on the Astra theme?

Oh and can you say something on my second question about the length of the excerpt before this is forgotten?

    Thanks again for your help!

    Hey @mchildress,

thanks for your offer to help.

Since the project is in a non-public development environment, I am unfortunately unable to provide a link at the moment.

But the point described should be very easy to reproduce, shouldn’t it? If not, I’ll be happy to provide a screenshot.
