Well glad to say all seems to be ok now.

I noticed that the wp-admin directory was no longer there.
Don’t know if I had finger trouble and accidentally deleted it via ftp or had read somewhere that it should be removed. Or maybe “better wordpress security” plugin hid it?

Anyway restoring it from an earlier backup of the files fixed the problem – the wordpress login page has its format (css) back to normal and the login now works fine. Both sites fully operational.

Thanks to Bas Schuiling and Seacoast Web Design who responded and good luck to anyone else in the same boat – hope it helps.

    Phew!

I took the plunge and renamed everything that was current.com to new.co.uk added new tables to the db so I could keep both sites live.

Both sites work if you’re browsing until you try to log in. Then you get the login page with no css applied, and the fail to load as too many redirects.

Once it’s failed the problem of showing as if user is logged in comes back.

Still lost, still running out of time!

Ok thanks for that Bas, cleared cookies and everytthing I could in Firefox and now visiting the site doesn’t show as logged in any more.

Still get the redirect errors (ie still can’t login to do anything useful).

I’m about to delete the new.co.uk domain and see if I get back to normal.
Need to think why I’m getting the redirect errors now.

Ok checked the whole backup of my database SQL for web addresses – they only include references to current.com not new.co.uk.

So what can be stopping me from logging in to the current site, from the current site address? And why does the site show with the logged in toolbar across the top (but then only show the oops this is embarrasing page when you select anything from it?)

    Confused!

    Thanks for the replies.

I’ve cleared the cache and the site has never been local. Also tried on different PCs that haven’t seen the old domain for a while.

wp_options only show the current.com address. I’ll check wp_posts but think this must be the same?

I’m unwilling to continue tryong to move the site across as I don’t think the old one should be broken. I’d be happier getting the current one running again and then attempting the move.

Right now i want to forget the new domain and get the old one working.

Forgetting the fact that I want to move to a new domain name, What i don’t understand is just because I looked at the site pages from a new URL how can that stop the original site working?

Thanks to anyone who has more ideas than me!
