Thanks Peter, that makes sense and yes I did ask Google to index this page – not realizing that was unnecessary.
I am using Yoast and the 404-error page was showing in the sitemap – it has now ceased to appear, so as you say it will just take a few days for Google to catch up.

Yes – tried a number of different images on a two different computers.

It simply says:
HTTP error.
We are thinking it must be Pencidesign’s problem. We’ve just tested all our other sites using different themes and they are fine.
