After many days of testing and hypothesis testing, it turns out it was a mod_security issue on the server.

So it is fixed and wordpress is operating as it should.

Hi Sara, thanks so much for your help. I re-installed wordpress and it still continued to not work. And after days of tinkering, including making a mock new site in which I imported the wordpress data from my old site, and it turned out it was the “Laziest Gallery” plug-in that broke my site. Phew! Lots of learning occurred in this situation for me.

Hi kimluckyday, did you get any resolution to this? Using wordpress as a blog, and subscribers get the dashboard tab is going to confuss most people. It isn’t relevant to general use of wordpress. I would like to remove it the dashboard tab for subscribers. I hope someone has a solution.
