Dumb question here, but I can’t help but ask… When you say SQL, do you mean the program SQL or do you mean the program MySQL? These are two different programs which use different default ports…

Also, I had a really hard time installing using MySQL Version 4.1, if you are using Version 4.1, then fall back to Version 4.022/23 (i can’t remember which one it is), and see if that works.

    Ok, well hope this helps…

I am not sure what server you are running, but in IIS if you right click install.php while in the IIS manager, and move the mouse to “Browse”, then you should be able to start the install.

Check this link for a bit more info on Error 500:

Note: These error descriptions are not specific to any server OS.

    Hope this helps…

    pohihihi,
This sounds like a problem associated with the directory on IIS. Under “Documents” in the property settings of the website in IIS, do you have “index.php” as the first document in the list? Double check to ensure that your directory which IIS uses to access “index.php” is correct. Double check the permissions on the folder where the “index.php” file is located and make sure that the “IUSER_YourServerName” has “read” permissions for that directory. While you are at it, if you want to upload files via your blog, then you will have to set write permissions for that directory.

I had a terrible time with MySQL 4.1 , I dropped back to 4.023–it may have been 4.022, but whose counting–and everything worked fine. Then, because I cannot sleep until I find the culprit to a computer related problem, I uninstalled 4.022/23 and reinstalled 4.1 to prove my theory that 4.1 just ain’t cuttin’ it!! I really think the problem with 4.1 is that it does not install to the directory of “c:\MySQL\bin”, rather, it installs to “program files”. I hope this bit of info helps ya along..

Thank you. I finally figured it all out at about 1am lastnight! hehe. What can I say, this program is just too good to put away for the night…

I should point out that my main problem was that I was using MySQL 4.1. which does not make it’s defaul directory in c:\mysql . This appears to be a big problem for this program overall. In fact, once I got the whole thing running, I then went back and reinstalled MySQL 4.1 to prove my assumptions.

I have spent the greater part of the day writing a VB program which will automatically create the connection (i.e. the database, and user/pass). It will check to make sure that the directories are in the appropriate place and will notify the user if they are not. I thought about adding the function which would create the wp-config.php file for the user, but perhaps in the next release this will happen.

I am going to upload the file to my server at about 8:30p.m. Eastern Standard Time, and at this time I will post a link to download the file. The source code will be included in the zip, so just look for the setup.exe file after extracting and you will be all set.

I just wanted to say that even though my frustrations were nearing the point of total, and complete, negligence of this program, It was NOT WordPress that was at fault in the end–as much as I thought it was…

    Thank you again…
