After rereading the original post I realize that it’s different from what I want. How embarraskin.

I’d like something like this also for our company’s conference room scheduling. The user should be able to log in, create or edit their event but not be able to delete or edit someone else’s event.

Calendar Plugin and Events Calendar both do what I want except for the editing security. Anyone who can access the calendar has full admin rights to the calendar.
