Update – it looks like something else (a Vbulletin add-on) was responsible, and the problem showing up at the same time I installed Wordfence was just a coincidence.

In reply to: WordPress 2.6 posts hackedI have different Mysql users and passwords for each database, so I created a new user with access to the blog db, put this one in wp-config.php, and deleted the old one. Nothing broke ??
Would anyone like to guess what are the chances that this will have solved the problem?

In reply to: WordPress 2.6 posts hackedTurns out #1 is what I’d already done, looking for added active plugins. But the music’s good. ??
Any advice on changing the mysql password, anyone?

In reply to: WordPress 2.6 posts hackedThanks very much for the responses! Much appreciated. The downside of using WordPress is feeling very much alone when things go pear-shaped.
Yes, the problem still occurred after doing all the above – the only exception is updating wp-config.php. Trouble is, there’s no positive way to tell if the problem’s fixed, as there tends to be a delay of a month or more between attacks…
I don’t have any of those plugins – and thank you for the list, as I was wondering how to check for vulnerabilities there.
How to change the mysql password and not break the blog? Do I just change it in Cpanel and edit wp-config.php?
As you can probably tell from that question, I’m not an expert. ?? I’m really short of time and wholly lacking in knowledge to fix this. (Does anyone sell WP tech support?)
I will look at solutions #s 1 and 2, thank you, and try them when I feel brave.

In reply to: HELP: Spam Links In all My Posts, how the hell?Ditto, on WordPress 2.6: hidden spam text inserted in a post, naturally fully visible in the rss feed. Since the rss feed is emailed out to people with blog updates, this is not good.
I’ve since deleted all inactive plugins and updated those that remain. Is there any way of telling whether this really is caused by a plugin – and if so, *which one*?

In reply to: WordPress 2.3.2 Injection issue?I had this same problem with a post I made since upgrading to 2.6. I checked xmlrpc.php, and it was uploaded on 15th July 2008 along with all the rest. So this is not solved by upgrading.
Right now I’m searching my blog daily for spam terms. I have Aweber picking up my rss feed and emailing updates to a list, so I could get in all kinds of trouble for sending a bunch of emails advertising pharmaceuticals.
Help?

In reply to: Post’s permalink gives 404 errorThank you, thank you (*blushing*)
I deleted and republished with the original date, and now it seems to be fine. Many thanks!

In reply to: Post’s permalink gives 404 errorAltering the post slug didn’t change anything, unfortunately. Well, I’m glad I have a refreshingly weird problem for you ??
Hm. Can I delete and re-publish with a date in the past, or would that munge everything even more than it’s already munged?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Post’s permalink gives 404 errorYes, the post slug is visualising-an-i-ching-reading.
Anything I can do before this post disappears from the front page and is lost forever…? ??

In reply to: How/where to edit ‘the_category’?For anyone searching for a solution to this – it was because of some technical problem at Technorati which also prevented me from ‘claiming’ my blog. (It kept coming back with a message that it wasn’t claimable.) I contacted them a couple of times, they fixed this, I claimed it, and now it knows my tags exist. Nice.
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: How/where to edit ‘the_category’?Yes, got one, I’ll try that: a list of tags at the end of every post.
But I’d love to get Technorati recognising the WordPress categories as tags, like it says it does on their support pages. Why doesn’t it, and how can I fix this…?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: How/where to edit ‘the_category’?Thanks. Unfortunately, Technorati doesn’t index my blog’s tags at all. I suppose the question is – does it index tags on any WordPress blogs?
Ie – is it that Technorati’s indexing is unreliable/inconsistent?
Or is the problem that WordPress writes ‘category tag’ instead of ‘tag’, and Technorati doesn’t recognise this? Can anyone confirm if Technorati has indexed tags for their blog?

In reply to: Trackback and ‘save as draft’ or delayed publicationThanks.
Have you tried wp-cron? (I tried his backup plugin but the ‘backup’ file it produced contained no data – so I am wary.)

In reply to: Trackback and ‘save as draft’ or delayed publication*bump*
I just need some way of only sending trackbacks when the post is actually published on the blog. It must be possible…?
