Unable to create directory /home/livsim1/public_html/faregos.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Having a try at making an ftp client from cpanel. Unchartered waters for me…..

I love those fish pictures. Do you do prints?

So I tried making wp-content 777, 776, 767 and 755. Still the same error message, aagh!

I’ll have a try at making an ftp account, and contact my host if that doesn’t work as you suggest.

Ok, I think I’ll try removing the 2011 and 04 folders and make wp-content 766 and see what happens.

You know, I didn’t know there was any other way of doing it except in cpanel, so that’s where I’ve been doing it. What’s the other way?

I’ve done that also now and I’m getting the same error message.

I do also have eshop files as a subdirectory of uploads, which I haven’t changed to 777 as I’m worried about what might happen. Should I change those too?

The only other folder I have in there is 2010. I’ve changed it and the contents to 777.

Should I change the permisiions for wp-content to 777?

I mean the same as a folder.

Right, I’ve made a folder called 2011, and one called 04 (which I assume goes in the 2011 one).

The uploads folder is 0755, as is 2011 and 04. The other folder in uploads is 2010 which is also 0755.

A directory is the same as a file right?

I still seem to have an issue with writable files though. When I try and upload an image I get this message:

Which one is the parent directory and what do I need to do to make it writable?

Add new post or page, or open an old one. When you click the ‘add an image’ icon a box appears from where you can choose From Computer, URL or Media Library.

If you then say choose Media Library and click ‘show’ to open the image it will appear in a box which has an ‘Alternate Text’ area you can fill however you like.

I tried making wordpress contents writable (0777) but all that happened was that the images on my site stopped working.

Any ideas anyone?
