I have figured out the problem: I have a URL and a different display name. The problem was the pasword was using the display name for access and not the url name. the dispaly name is an address that i ofrwarded to the site after the blog was initially established. Well when i realized what the problem was, i went to change the display name and inadvertantly changed the url name which caused a major problem…i am in the process of reinstalling the application with the same urland display name. Fortunately,there was only one entry and a cpuple of pages which i have to replace….. I so appreciate your wilingness to help me.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did try switching to the Twenty Ten theme and all that happened when I typed the password when prompted was going to a WordPress login page.. Needless to say I am stumped.

I did as you suggested and password access to the page with every plugin deactivated does not work either….the frustration continues….thanks

Thanks I will check the article out. I called Go Daddy (my hosting service) but was told that for that change I was on my own. Thanks again for the info!

i deactivated all plugins and reactivated them one by one and tried the password fpr the protected page again, and it still is not logging me into the page, but into my dashboard. Those who are not logged in are being directed to log into wordpress…frustration continues….

I created a new page and then set it to pass word protected. i then followed the prompt to create a password. i then published the page. The page is showing on the site with the enter password prompt, but if when i’m logged in it takes me to the dashboard, and for those not logged in it takes them to a wp login page. thanks in advance for your help…
