All issues resolved by careful rebuild of affected blogs from backups.

Installed Sucuri Pro at suggestion of my hosting company. Virus problems appear to be over.

Self resolved by reinstalling and only importing selected tables from backed up database.

No I was not able to edit in either text or visual mode. I solved the problem by exporting the DB, uninstalling the blog, rebuilding the blog under a different subdomain name with a new password (I kept the same plugins and theme as before – I never thought the plugins or themes were the problem although most of the suggestions from forum moderators suggested that they were), and uploading only selected tables from the backed up database.

No. HostPapa says they can help but so far they have not found a solution either.

I’m pretty sure it’s a 4.4.2 bug (I have noticed several posts on the forums since 4.4.2 with similar issues) but so far no-one who represents WordPress has acknowledged it as a bug.

I have now established to my satisfaction that there is a problem with the post editor in 4.4.2

Actions
1. Backed up DB and uninstalled WP 4.4.2
2. Reinstalled WP 4.4.2 using Softaculous using default theme.
3. Attempted to edit standard “Hello world” post
4. Found editor unresponsive and could not see the text of the “Hello world” post.
5. Text displays normally in public part of blog – it is the text editor in the control panel that does not work.

I am having a similar problem after upgrading to 4.4.2 using Softaculous (hosted by HostPapa). I do not have OpenHook.

Anyone have any input on this? I will be attempting another re-installation of the DB later today (probably loading each table sequentially) but would appreciate input from anyone who has encountered a similar issue.

Resolved.

Decided to try activating a different theme. Problem solved. Seems the theme that was part of my previous install was broken. Thanks for all the help.

Renamed .htaccess file and used one from another WP blog that is working properly.

Restored default PermaLink settings.

Neither of these steps made a difference. Still cannot view posts except from within the Admin dashboard (in edit mode). When I click on “view post” I get a blank screen.

However, I can see my posts on my mobile phone (Android) in the WP app.

Go figure !

All help thus far is greatly appreciated and any further insights would still be welcome. If all else fails, I can always try another install.

Thanks for your suggestion. I did go back to the default setting but I didn’t rename the WordPress .htaccess file, because I am not 100% clear on what this does.

Questions:
1. How does renaming the .htaccess file affect the behaviour of PermaLinks?
2. Can I just rename it whatever I want?
3. Doesn’t there need to be a .htaccess file for the site to work?

Thanks. I really appreciate the advice, just need a bit more understanding before proceeding. If this doesn’t work I will probably just do another reinstall. Good thing I backed up the database … ??

Problem solved – did automatic upgrade via Fantastico Deluxe (supplied by hosting company) – all is OK.
