Good to hear that my first attempt was the right approach. As I said WC started installing and I got that screen with moving completion bar. It went until around 80% and then nothing happened.
It looked like everything was there. At that time I did not check the tables.
My current problem is that it seems impossible to restart the whole install process?

I am using custom php code to add meta tags to the header. So code like
global $product;
$price = $product->get_price();
And that failed as the method is not there?
When vardumping the product var only its name was there?
But I have not investigated what should be there.
I might add that this custom code works fine on another site (not multi).

I have updated all my sites that also use Storefront as a secondary theme via Multiple Theme plugin and with WP 6.4.2 there are no problems!

So for me this issue can be closed!

It looks like WP 6.4.2 solves the problem! Will test some more (on other sites) and report back.

I contacted the current developer of Multiple Themes. Alas he tells me that he has no time to fix this and advises me to look for another plugin that does the same. I do not think there is an alternative. Just reporting this for those of you who find this.

I also want to add that storefront is not the only one that gets into problems as soon as it is the second theme that needs to be activated.
I am experiencing this with others as well.
All give you a line number in the functions.php of that theme and at that location the first get_template_directory is executed.
I assume the plugin hooks into that function to set the template dir, if desired, to another location when the second theme needs to be activated.

I am trying to understand the logic of the plug-in but haven’t made much progress yet.

I was expecting this……… ??

The status report below is from a multi site but I have similar problems on a single site.
(I removed the site urls from the status report)
I tried upgrading to PHP 8.0 but the problem persists.
These problems occurred directly after upgrading from WP 6.3.2 to 6.4.1.
When reverting to WP 6.3.2 the problem disappears.
I also use Multiple Themes plug-in to display specific pages in another theme. This plug-in was not updated.

No reply of official support in 10 months! Bad support!

I am used to reporting problems on GitHub (I have an account) but in this case this seems a bit extra work? Why should I create a totally new post (and having to explain everything anew) while you can just forward this all to development? Other plug-in support does that too. So why this difference?

On version 15.9 I need to protect my sites for this storage problem by using the code published (too large).
On 15.9 wpseo_breadcrumb shortcode exists and on my test site and the size is 914533 (Home page).
On 15.7 the shortcode does not exist at all so cannot pose a problem.

Still I am wondering what is in it? A breadcrumb is supposed to be small especially on the Home page! Do the WP blocks (I have a lot of them on my Home page of my test site) “blow” up the content?

Is there a part of the content of the breadcrumb that you want to see/analyze? If so please specify the best way to code that in PHP.

I am maintaining several sites that never had storage problems. Since recent updates (no changes in the home pages concerned whatsoever) this problem has occurred.
