I don’t have any website caching, but I did clear the browser cache with no change. Trying in a different browser is the same.I’m curious. How did you end losing thousands after updating?

You sent multiple messages early on a Sunday morning over a major (U.S.) holiday weekend. While I wish we could respond to all support requests immediately, that simply isn’t possible. We’re a small team, and our team members deserve time off to spend with their families.

The “update” two weeks ago was not a real update, it was only to change the “compatible up to WP version” from 5.2 to 5.3. It hasn’t had an actual update to the functionality since 2014.
Something is adding a trailing slash, which is probably why you can’t see it in the browser. ie https://eastshoremarineny.com/page-sitemap.xml shows up as xml. https://eastshoremarineny.com/page-sitemap.xml/ does not.
If you go to “view source” you can see the sitemap.
To find out what’s doing it, start by disabling all caching, and deactivate each plugin one at a time. (More on this here: https://semperplugins.com/documentation/how-to-troubleshoot-issues-with-all-in-one-seo-pack/)You have a lot of attachment pages. I’d say that’s probably what’s causing such a high number of pages to be indexed. If you don’t want attachment pages to be indexed, you can change that setting in the sitemap options page.
Since you’re no longer using All in One SEO Pack for your sitemap, it’s impossible for us to diagnose much of that.
I could not find the .xml file in public_html
This is because by default we use dynamically generated sitemaps. No physical file exists. You can turn this off in the settings, but eventually we’ll do away with static sitemaps completely.
it was turning my 170 page or so site into a 3000+ page site via sitemap entries. Also the site map did not parse for viewing online due to the generic “stylesheet” issue

That plugin hasn’t had a meaningful update in 5 years. We highly recommend against using it.

Where it asks for a “license key,” just copy/paste this forum thread’s URL.That can be done with the code using the filter. The filter hook is just a tool, how you want to customize the usage of it is up to you.
