I managed to update during the time it’s disappeared and started trying to highlight updated blogs for the first time. So it’s comforting to see that it’s a general problem and not just me.

Faked folders is the best static page plugin you can find, but the new nightlies have static pages inbuilt.
They’re not as friendly or as useful as Steve’s plugin but I’m banging my head against them in order to find out what I like, don’t like, and what I think is a bug.

Not sure, I’ve never seen an entirely empty WordPress blog since the installation populates the database with one test post and one test comment.
Maybe that’s just what happens to an empty WordPress blog.

I think you need to write the permalink rules to the .htaccess file, I had the same problem on my cvs tester blog and that solved it.

Due to extreme laziness I put the following lines in the .htaccess file:
AddDefaultCharset UTF-8
php_value default_charset UTF-8
I prefer to let the server tell the files what they are, but using Meta info does make the page more portable.
Not sure why your meta tag is being ignored but you could try setting the encoding as above and see what happens.

I don’t use either of those and my posts are still wrapped in an extra paragraph tag, there’s no white space before the posts and I never use tags at the beginning of a post.

I’ve got it too, not on all posts though. I’m running yesterday’s nightly build, I tried deactivating all plugins but to no avail.

And I thought it was just me who could see the Moveable type button

I’m think I might have been opaque, I mean the monthly archive links generated by WordPress, or have I missed something?
