  • Mikhail I’ve had exactly the same experience as you. My problem is I’m trying to understand the purpose of the keys and salts in the wp_config file. I just want a really basic understanding of how it all works together. Honestly I feel like I’m banging my head against a wall as regards the help I’m getting. I’ve looked on the internet but there is very little out there for the layman. A dummys guide would be great. Everyone seems to assume too much as regards base knowledge level or they just seem to be unable to explain it. Very sad and frustrating for newbies.

I am using the visual editor. In the new post I have typed out the text and used the ‘Read more tag’ in the middle of the text by clicking on the ‘Read more tag’ control. But when I view the page it’s displaying as if the tag isn’t there even though I can see the tag in the visual and text editor.

This is an easy control to use, it’s practically idiot proof. So I’m wondering if there are known issues.

These links don’t actually explain how the keys work. Lots of statements but no actual explanation of the inner workings.

Can it be that difficult to explain?

Thank you all I will be having a look at your suggestions. I’ve also stumbled across WP101 so looks like I’ve got plenty to keep me busy.

    More suggestions welcome ??

All I see is that PHP is partially based on Java. I’m also aware people have used Python successfully within WP.

So really I’m not any better informed after reading your answer?!

Managed to sort it out. Needed to set my virtual server hostname = my domain name and set the cname record for ‘www’ access.

    Thanks

I find that I can get to my website using the ip or the domain name. But if I prepend WWW to the domain name I get webpage not found.

I tried changing “WordPress address (URL)”?and “Site address (URL)” from the IP to the domain value only to loss access to my site. Then I just tried changing “WordPress address (URL)” and again lost access to the site. Used PHPmyadmin to reset the WP admin settings.

Baffled and fed up with this. So bl@@dy complicated and so many obstacles to overcome just to learn a bit of WordPress!

    Hi Obi,
Thank you for replying. I took your advice. But this is what I found.

Lets say my site is called xyz.com

If I type in https://www.xyz.com ………..I get “web page is not available”

    If I type xyz.com OR https://xyz.com/ ……….IT WORKS ??

Am I right in thinking this is something I need to update within wordpress somewhere?

    Thanks
