Yeah, it’s weird. The fake link actually appears very slightly below where the actual link should be. If you then scroll the page just a bit, the actual link shows up where it’s supposed to be and the spam link disappears. I’ll look into the codex and see if it helps. Will let you know what happens! Thanks!

    Hi everyone,

I finally hired a web team to get the problem resolved — thank you for your help getting me there!

To share with you the solution to the puzzle, here’s what happened. Apparently on one of my subsites, someone had attacked our bbpress plugin and spammed it with 600MB worth of posts. This ended up filling our storage capacity on our server and so we weren’t able to post new content since the server was full. All is well now, but what a disaster for a little while!

    Thanks again for your help.

Mika, any idea what I might specifically be looking for in the logs? I’m afraid I’m not really well-versed enough to know what to look for or if I’ve found the problem. Thanks!

Bet, your inquiry brought on a new finding: if I try to create a new subsite, it simply loads an empty page that says “Could not create site.” Really strange. I’m starting to feel like this has something to do with creating new content entirely.

Mika, this is a great question as well. I’m going to have a look at the server error logs and get back to you.

Harty, thanks for your reply! It’s not just that I can’t publish a new post, but on the “new posts” page there are a BUNCH of elements missing: comments, tags, some of our plugins, etc. The “new posts” function is buggy entirely.

If I try to do a “quick post” from the dashboard, what it will do is erase the content of a published post and replace it with the quick post. It’s really weird.

At the bottom of the “new posts” page, it says there is an unidentified error in the comments. I’ve deleted pretty much all comments made since the issue started happening wondering if maybe there was some bad code that was thrown in via a comment, but that wasn’t it either.

Though I understand it’s happening on all of the sites, I’m reasonably sure it’s not a “Multisite” problem. That being said, I’ll definitely check that forum as well. If you have additional thoughts, I’d appreciate them. My entire business is run on this site and the fact that we’ve been completely unable to publish content for a week has been debilitating and a huge problem!

    Thanks!

So I tried a backup but now I’m a little nervous, as I have Multisite and am not sure if it’ll accurately backup all my sites. However, an interesting factoid I discovered is that the problem I have exists on all sites, and not just one. Not sure if that makes a difference but worth mentioning as I keep snooping around.

I do have a backup. I’ve never actually restored a backup before. Do you think that will help? I suppose worth trying?

I have, no dice! Thanks for trying anyway. It’s still not working — so very strange!

I hate to tell you this, but I tried both things and neither worked ??

Thanks! I did check those as well, and nothing changed there. The users should be able to create posts without a problem. Ugh!

Thanks for your reply! Multiple computers. I had four different people try it, and three of us are in different states in the USA and one is in India, so I’m sure it has something to do with WordPress and not us. We also tried different browsers just to be sure.

Hi! I have the same question. How was this resolved? Thanks!
