I’m having the same problem after upgrading the plugin to 1.4.5. The Google API key was properly generated and then configured in the plugin settings.

Nothing else has changed but now I get a quick spinner when the page loads and then an empty area where the widget used to appear.

Thanks. Deleting and reinstalling fixed the problem. Actually, it turned out that after doing a regular update of the plugin to v. 2.2.8 there were only two files in the directory instead of what appears to be the standard 6 files.

Quit counting down again when plugin was updated to 2.2.8.
