I don’t understand why this has become a problem now, when 2.9.2 experienced no such issues.

I figured it out: when an upgrade fails, a .maintenance file appears in the main directory – delete it and the message goes away.

Any ideas?

I’ve downloaded WordPress 3.0 – uploaded all the files, again the same message.

The context was that I was upgrading a theme as per its instructions, however it timed out. I upgraded the theme manually, but the message simply refuses to go away.

I’ll try uploading the WordPress 3.0 files again and see if it cures it.

I couldn’t get into the plugins page until I deleted Super Cache; it worked with my installation of 2.9.2, but no such luck with 3.0.

It’s appearing on the dashboard – it’s just saying:

“An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.”

But as I said, I updated the theme manually and when I click on update, it says that nothing needs to be updated. However the above message refuses to go away.

I’m just kicking this up the list since no one has provided an answer.

Right, in my case I found the all-in-one-SEO plugin created a fatal error.

I’ve found a similar issue – got the “white screen of death” when trying to get into admin; removing Super Cache restored the admin screen – but still get the white screen when I access Plugins.

My host does run PHP 5 and it is set to safe_mode.

I tried the .htaccess solution; it worked with one hosting company, but not another: it broke PHP completely on the other. And I checked the server is running PHP 5.

Is there any ETA on a dashboard fix? It’s not fatal, but it’s not optimal either.

I’ve tried this on several different environments – same story.

Resolved:

WP-Super-Cache doesn’t work with the following two plugins:

SimplePie Core
WP-o-Matic

Without these two, it runs fine.

I just wiped .htaccess clean and re-installed the plugin. The behaviour I get is as follows:

Only the top bar of the Dashboard appears after activation. If I click out to Visit Site, then click Site Admin, I get a 500 Site Error.

It could be, presumably, that Super Cache doesn’t play nicely with the other plugins I have – these are as follows:

However, removing Super Cache eliminates all problems with the functioning of the site – just it’s a bit slower. Super Cache did work for me, with all these plugins and the previous version of WordPress and Super Cache: its operation, however, was somewhat cranky.
