To change the send name (rather than address) change line 343 from:
$from_name = ‘WordPress’;
to:
$from_name = get_option(‘blogname’);

I am wanting to do something similar, where student uploads are shown in a NextGen Gallery. I need NextGen to automatically scan for uploads, maybe via a timed Cron call or something.

I agree. I searched for “Sidebar Login” – a plugin that actually exists and it did not appear in the 46 pages of results.
