In reply to: [Better RSS Widget] Deprecated funtion in php8I have just updated the plugin to get rid of the error and make it work in the latest version of WordPress and the latest PHP. I will be updating it more soon.
Thank you for the update. This is the answer I needed. Perhaps we can have the option to set the length of the cache as that would be more useful than just turning it on or off.
And here’s the most confusing part – I can switch to Recent and get different photos, then go back to Random and I get the SAME photos from when it was previously set to random. So 3.1.5 does NOT fix the random cache issue.
I have even tried doing a forced refresh of the page (CTRL+F5) and I still get the same images.
Actually, it does not. I am running 3.1.5 on https://riverrail.org and the random images in the widget are not randomizing – they are the same on every page.
@edanzer – Any news on a solution to the 24 hour caching?
Does anyone know how long the “random” images are cached and if there is a way to change the length of that cache. I am going to look through the code to see if I can find it but I thought I’d ask here in case someone already knows.

In reply to: [Better RSS Widget] Update PHP 7.0I no longer support this plugin as I don’t have time, sorry. In fact, it’s been so long that I have done any PHP programming I didn’t even know there WAS a PHP 7.0.

In reply to: [Better RSS Widget] Your Linked Documentation Have Been HackedI apologize. I stopped supporting my plugins about a year ago due to work and family obligations. The URL for this is likely an old domain I no longer own (grandslambert.net). It’s unlikely that I still have the old documentation for this plugin.

In reply to: [Better RSS Widget] RSS feed errorWhat I have seen so far is that if I use the WordPress built in RSS Parser the feed is reachable but unreadable. If I switch to SimpleXML built in to PHP I get the feed is not reachable. I will continue looking at this, but it seems there is no simple answer.

In reply to: [Better RSS Widget] RSS feed errorUnfortunately it seems that this feed is not following the standard RSS layout and even the built in RSS reader in WordPress shows an error. This means that the WordPress RSS Feed parsing routine, which I use in my plugin, cannot parse this feed.
I will be looking into this more to see if I can use a different routine that will get what is needed, but I make no promises.
