  • It’s not just you. Been driving me mad all morning. Especially when trying to find solutions. Pull the RSS feed for the thread you are interested in and that’ll help

Ecto 2.3.6 and the xmlrpc fix mentioned by Ryan above. Parsing error from Ecto and when I log into the browser I see that the post is sitting as draft.

Security issues don’t mean the basics of software release go out of the window. Assess/Develop/Test/Test/Release. The ball was dropped here and you certainly don’t tell users to “step up” to do it themselves – that’s just petulant and immature and theres no need, it’s not going to get the issues resolved.

As someone with an interest in seeing this fixed, I’d love for the usual jingoism to just not get started.

I use Ecto. Great editor. Adriaan is doing a great job with the development.

There’s no objection is there? I just doubted it could be done by one person alone without collaboration. There’s a place for anybody to make money from WP if they want to use their expertise.

Well Google for WordPress templates and sort through those until somebody recognises it – I have a feeling it’s custom though and by the sounds of it they don’t want to share so you’ll have to look for something similar.

Well unless somebody recognises the template and tells you what it is (if it is one), you don’t have many options. Don’t steal the CSS as that’s a really quick way to get people really annoyed.

Look for a contact link on their site and get in touch…can’t hurt.

It has WP elements in the CSS….but the big giveaway if the “Powered by WordPress” on the sidebar ??

Don’t recognise the template though….could be custom.

No they’re not. That’s a big mistake for anyone to make.

Documentation exists outside of the codex, also what about the documentation that people produce for their own work (plugins, themes, etc…)

H-M-P, there is now 1.2.2 which had significant changes and if you think a book like the one proposed takes a couple of months to produce, again you’d be mistaken….or the book wouldn’t be worth much.

I wouldn’t have any copyright worries because I would write everything from scratch…Until I stumbled upon phpmyadmin I was having a heck of a time making WordPress install correctly…I plan to include chapters on hacks, plug-ins, and theme creation and customizing, plus CSS tutorials.

All written yourself? Look carefully at those statements you made above ?? You’re saying that you had problems installing WP initially, and yet you’re going to write everything from scratch covering every facet of WP? Riiighhht… (Dr Evil style)

A book like this could not be written from scratch, by one person, without collaboration from a lot of people. Also the speed at which everything you mentioned (and including WP) develops it would be out of date before the first draft was finished.

Bear in mind that WP may be open source, but a lot of plugins, templates, themes and associated material are released under license by those that created them. The way you knocked copyright aside was worrying…

Nice idea, but I doubt the practicality ??

Might just be me missing the point…but what on earth has this got to do with WordPress? Email addresses aren’t shown by default, and I would think more people are concerned about combating trackback spam.

I’m still “stuck” on 1.2, because I dread having to upgrade

Don’t upgrade. Nightlies are meant for people to test and shouldn’t really be run on a live site. You should only do that if you are comfortable and know what you’re doing.

The simple answer to all your questions is – I know what I’m doing ??

Interesting, I’ll watch for that one.

It’s fair to note for anybody that’s new to this, that’s you’re on a losing streak if you block where it’s coming from. They have too many IP addresses for you to do that. It’s where it’s pointing at, and they’ll normally put this information in as their site URL or as part of the comment.

If you point terashells and tigerspice in your moderation ketys then those two domains are useless as far as the WP community is concenred. They’re going to have to use a different domain name – which they’ll have to buy and set-up, but that’s a greater pain for them to do than for me to drop one word into moderation keys.

Isn’t there already a blacklist plugin?

Personally I’m not keen on IP blacklisting. It’s a little like plugging holes in a very leaky bucket…pointless if someone keeps poking new ones – but turn off the water (try and pinpoint and shut down the server) and life get’s much easier.

Remember, a lot of us are seeing this from server logs – but if you don’t check them and have moderation enabled you shouldn’t be bothered by this guy.
