Success. I’ve just installed the latest plugin update 4.5.1 for for wc square which claimed to have a fix to resolve this issue and it seems to have worked. The wp_actions_scheduler tables resolved themselves with the excesses rows disappearing and the problem is no longer persisting by the looks of it. I am still on Woo Commerce 8.5.2.

Thanks for the WP rollback tip. I rolled it back to 8.5.2 and have monitored over the last 48 hours. Unfortunately no impact from what I can see.

Should I roll back Wc_square next?

I’ve tried what limited conflict testing I think I’m capable of with my limited expertise and time. We have no themes installed so nothing to update or turn off, also the only successful impact of switching off/on plugins is when either WooCommerce or WooCommerce Square is off. Not really a viable solution.

So I wonder if it’s literally a compatibility problem just between the two? Sorry, not much else to report – are any of the other sites with this problem having any luck?

In the meantime, the workaround I’m doing regularly on MySQL is fairly ruthless:

DELETE FROM wp_actionscheduler_actions WHERE hook IN (‘wc_square_init_payment_token_migration’)

and

TRUNCATE wp_actionscheduler_logs

Thanks for replying so quickly. Some answers and further updates:

Did the issue start when you enabled Square syncing, or did it begin when you activated the plugin? Answer: I installed it without syncing because we are just wanting to use it to start with as a payment gateway only. The products do not exist on the Square inventory as such – would this cause a problem?

And just to clarify, does the Square payment function normally? Answer: Yes it works totally fine. Customers have purchased products with no problems and Square is capturing the product fine even though it isn’t on the inventory. No complaints at all from the Customer side.

Also, what syncing method did you choose, WooCommerce to Square to Square to WooCommerce? Answer: I’ve turned syncing on now and set sync interval to 3 hours. The same behaviour is happening (see below for update on that). I have not turned off the syncing again yet, but may try again later.

If the issue continues, enable Logging and share the error log under?WooCommerce → Status → Logs. I’ve enabled this, nothing yet logged though.

Further update on the situation: It turns out I was wrong about the frequency and timing of the tokens being sent. It is not continuous, but happens when there is a visitor interacting with the general site, even if they are not interacting with the products or checkout. It seems to send up to 15,000 tokens (‘wc_square_init_payment_token_migration’) each time there is someone on the site. Then, once they leave, it stops.

At the moment I am just clearing all the rows with that token out of the wp_actionscheduler_actions table every morning as a work around.

Another possible cause is that I upgraded to wordpress 6.4.3 and that looks like it hasn’t been thoroughly tested with woocommerce square, but I did that after I had the initial problems with square. I’ve also just started upgrading the Woocommerce database as recommended so I don;t know what impact that will have.
