I mostly use a pc but we also use a Mac, can wordpress be installed locally on a mac?

thankyou for your reply, I understand your comment re: hosts but can i just use any that have wordpress in the Cpanel tools or are some better than others for hosting and developing wordpress websites?
I would rather use a host that i know and use but if it is better to use a perticuler one then i would use them as i want the best service possible for the worpress software.

I will try the local install fist and see how it goes.
