I did get this message at top of page after clicking “Update Permalink Structure”

You should update your .htaccess now.

What does it want me to do? I know how to access and modify .htaccess…maybe it wants me to make the .htaccess file more secure by changing the chmod to what?

I have resorted to modifying the classic theme, as it is the only one that does not push the sidebar to bottom. I am pleased with the result, and will continue to tweak.

Unfortunatley, even following the tutorial, sidebar psuhed to bottom. You may have better experience.
