Well, then I guess I have one thing to be grateful for as a result of upgrading to v3.1. I would never have found out about the dreaded switcheroo Visual/HTML bug otherwise.

In the meantime, what this effectively means is that you can’t ever WISIWIG edit a page that you have had to manually embed HTML launch code in. So the new ‘feature’ of 3.1 is to make it impossible to embed local media from the WordPress gallery and edit your page too.

    Kind of a catch 22, isn’t it? Anyway, I’m glad I’m back at 3.0.5.

It’s poor advice. People need to understand that once they have used the HTML tab, they must continue using that tab ad infinitum for that Page or Post. Your article does not make that clear.

And where in the interface is the warning about THIS? It is extremely un-intuitive to have a tabbed window that destroys code if you go back and forth between one tab and another. I guess the design must rely on the fact that MOST users will not ever want to see the HTML code. Bad design.

Follow the Above link mentioned 4 steps method to Embed a Video Without Anyplugin in WordPress Post. This Problem is Solved.I Am looking forward to your comments on my Blog. Thanks ALL ?? Happy Blogging.

This problem is NOT solved with that method for all users. This does not solve the problem of embedding YOUR OWN movie files from your WordPress media storage area.

Note everyone is pulling content from YouTube. Some of us have original content that is not posted on YouTube because it is not appropriate for that venue (example, professional training material).

Actually, you don’t have the embedded video button. It has been removed and that functionality is no longer there. The new functionality may work for pulling video from video servers. But it does not work for my movies stored on my local website.

I did succeed in reverting my site back to 3.0.5 and have that function back. I did successfully revert without changing the database back from 3.1, YMMV.

I appreciate that WordPress is built on cooperation and contribution. However, I don’t have the skillset or (currently) the time to figure out how to add this functionality back into 3.1, given that it appears to have been removed on purpose to clean up and simplify the appearance of the editor.

Sorry, but I’m not drinking the purple coolade.

Same with QuickTime movies. There is no way I found to easily embed QT. You end up with a link that opens in a new window, even for local (media gallery) files.

The dedicated embedded video button has been removed from 3.1. Someone found a release note somewhere that says that development of this feature has not been completed for 3.1.

    I reverted back to 3.0.5.

The video embedding function has ‘not been finished’ for 3.1. I have successfully reverted to 3.0.5 by following this procedure:

get the previous version you were running, then unzip it … copy everything but the wp-content folder to where ever your WP folder/files are … and when you go to open your site-admin it may tell you it needs to do a database update click ok to that and bam every thing is back up and running.

Video embedding is back and I have been through my site quite thoroughly, and have no residual problems.

    And I’ll wait for v3.1.5.

    This worked for me:

I successfully reverted to 3.0.5 and have my video embedding functions back again. No problems so far.

I have successfully reverted my installation back to 3.0.5 and have my working embedded video functions back. Happy days.

These are the instructions that I followed to roll the 3.1 installation back:

get the previous version you were running, then unzip it … copy everything but the wp-content folder to where ever your WP folder/files are … and when you go to open your site-admin it may tell you it needs to do a database update click ok to that and bam every thing is back up and running.

This worked for me. Thank you VERY much to all three of you. I seem to have a working 3.0.5 system back.

    Lesson learned… ??

Once you’ve set the default size in Settings > Media, you can simply paste the URL from the YouTube, Vimeo, Blip and other video services.

When I try this with a QuickTime movie from the local media gallery, all I get is a clickable link.

I read in another post on the trouble-shooting forum that it is documented in the 3.1 release notes, that the embedded video feature has not yet been released for 3.1.

Like you, I missed the embedded video button right off the bat after upgrading to v3.1. I am going to revert back to v3.0.5 tonight when I get a chance to look at this.

I don’t think that you can contact the ‘collective’ via e-mail…

My problem (posted under installation) is with the post editing mechanism, not with themes or plug-ins. The embedded video button has been removed. I need it back. Auto embedding does not seem to work with QuickTime videos. I have a deadline (tomorrow) to train the client on how to use this. It needs to be working tomorrow. I am brand new to this. I don’t have php programming experience.

OK, if the embedded video button was removed, how are we supposed to do an embedded video without manually coding it? I’m trying to set this up for a non-tech person to use. His training session is tomorrow evening.

I have a backup of 3.0.5 on my local computer. Can I simply overwrite the 3.1 files, or will this cause database failures?

Edit: I thought that it would be appropriate to start a new topic on methods to back out update 3.1. That post appears to have been deleted by forum moderators. Is this some kind of taboo topic? What have I gotten myself into, here? I’m not familiar with the open source world.

When I saw the yellow banner last night asking me to “please” upgrade to v3.1, I assumed that this was a security update.

I’m new to WordPress. Is there an easy procedure for backing out the 3.1 upgrade and reverting to the previous version?
