Thank you for getting back to me.
Overnight (here in the uk) I have wiped almost everything and reinstalled all the plugins.
I am getting through things slowly but everything seems to be ok now.
this doesnt help find why it wasnt using https:// but i am happier now things are going in the right direction.

i deleted the plugin and re installed it.
This did nothing at all. still the same.
Does that mean the fault is in another plugin, even though it references a folder in ‘paypal for woocommerce’?

Ive tried clearing everything i can think of.
Is it worth me uninstalling the plugin, make sure the folder has gone via ftp and reinstall from a download rather than the plugin page?
I realise i would have to set everything back up again, but it would be worth it if its likely to work.

Plugin page says its 1.4.6.3.
