    Thanks tykoted
I will try this and see if it makes a dofference. Much appreciated.

    Hi Amfisse
Thank you for that reply. I’ll give that a go later and see what I get. Did you need to alter any username, password details in the config files of the xampp install. Xampp installs with default ‘root’ username and blank password for mysql. Did this cause a conflict with the live site database username and password details?
Again thanks for the lengthy reply. Incidentally, I was just thinking, does the “No worries mate” in your reply make you an Aussie? I remember that from my years in London when I met so many Australians. Just an afterthought!!!

    Hi Lyle
    Thanks for the reply
Will I have to change any database connection details in the config docs and which ones. By default on install, xampp creates a username of ‘root’ and a blank password for mysql. Will these match with the actual database connection details from the live site install files that I copied down.

Can you just confirm this and what is the config doc that make the database connection?

    Thanks

    Hi Hi Amfisse
Forgive my spelling in that last post, I was rushing and didn’t check it.

    Hi Amfisse
I just found your post here. I was wondering could you send me a link to the tutorial you used as I want to do the exact same thing as you but I’m have big problems. All I get when I try to launch the site on localhost is ‘error trying to connmect to database’ message. Please send me that link if you can as I think the reply you have from 2ninerniner2 will work.

    Thanks

    Hi MichaelH
It appears that the ngcoders option backsup to the server that wordpress is on. They all seem to do this which seems rediculous as we are trying to guard against a server crash or problem of some kind. it does have an option to email the backup but most wordpress installs are too large for an email attachment. I am a little confused about that, maybe I don’t understand or am missing something but why would you want to backup files from your server onto your server? This seems to defeat the purpose.
With regard to the ngcoder script, I can’t find any instruction on how to modify the script for me nor do I know how to set up a cron job.

I would like to give it a try though if I knew how to change the config file for my server and could set up the cron job. Have you seen any help for this??

I’ll look into those suggestions and see which is best. It’s a shame that it is so difficult to backup to a local pc but hopefully this will work

    Hi kmessinger
I was saving the backups in a folder with a number of subfolders on my pc and this was perhaps the problem. I did an FTP of the wordpress folder from the server directly on to my desktop and not into the subfolders and this has worked sp problem solved. Thanks for your input and sorry about the late reply.

I feel a little stupid about the ‘Edit’ link on the page. That seems obvious now in hindsight. I’ll look at the code more closely and see if I can sort the post and comment info out. I found the relevant code but every time I tried to change or remove it, the whole thing crased. Your input has helped a lot and I’ll crack this soon enough now. thanks again
