In reply to: Updating links in old posts when things changeOK, now that I have changed the domain information successfully, the problem remains of fixing the permalink structure to posts I link to in my own blog. Is there any way to wordpress to update permalinks to itself links within it’s own database? Or is this a search and replace type of deal as well (albeit more nightmarish?

In reply to: Permalink changed, how to avoid 404??Is this a generic fix? I just read this:
“The best time to set up ‘Pretty Permalinks’ is the moment you install your blog because if you already have a bunch of existing posts, changing the permalink structure will make it so that your old links to those posts will result in page not found errors – to fix this you would need to edit the .htaccess file to set up permanent redirects for each post and page in the form of:
Redirect 301 https://www.yoursite.com/index.php?p=2 https://www.yoursite.com/the-new-post-title.htm”
(source)Is this solution solving the problem he is addressing?

In reply to: How do I transfer images from wordpress.com to a custom hosted site?So far this is not in fact how it works. As far as I can tell, the links in the database are not updated, the images are not downloaded to be stored on the new server, and the images remain on WordPress.com.
Not such a great import/export system if it ignored everything that is not text. Anyone have any solutions?

In reply to: How do I transfer images from wordpress.com to a custom hosted site? The import function is for posts, categories and other database things; it’s the wordpress custom XML file, so no images.
wordpress.com has so far nothing to say on the subject.

In reply to: enabling public commentsActually, I found another checkbox that controls comments, but is not int eh comments options section.
Under “General” uncheck “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”
This still posts the comment immediately, which is not what I want, but it’s a step in the right direction I guess.

Is there any idea why this is happening?

In reply to: Is there a debian package for 2.0 yet?OK. podz in all honesty I don’t know how to be more clear. I have debian. I need a .deb package to install WordPress 2.0. Is there a .deb for WordPress 2.0 available anywhere? There is for 1.whatever as that is what I have installed now.
If this is still not clear enough, can you please tell me exactly what information you need? Seriously, I’m not intending to be anything but respectful here.
