I have experienced this as well with 4.4.1. Luckily I had backups to revert to so we can continue to update our site normally for our non-experienced users.
I am seeing this issue as well after upgrading. Any luck yet? All my plugins are up-to-date as well! I’ve even tried disabling them and re-enabling them one at a time. Also restore backups and recreated this issue over and over. I upgraded from version 4.2.5 to 4.4.1.
