Some problems using the WP terms popup plugin:

It does not blur the featured image, meaning the “offending” image will be clearly visible on the blog home page, in the home page recent posts slider and in any social media shares.

This kind of defeats the purpose.

Might not be possible to blur the image and swap it out dynamically based on visitors and disclaimer clicks. But that is sort of what I am after.

@roitsco Nope. I still have the same problem. I can get past it to the , but I cannot access the dashboard main page, or the update page or use JetPack.

After loggin in I am taken to the url https://www.mysite.org/wp-admin/ with the message “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page”.

If I then delete the “/wp-admin” part of the url I go to my website and am still logged in.

If I mouse over the speedometer icon with my site name there is no drop down menu.

If I click the updates icon I am taken to the url https://www.mysite.org/wp-admin/update-core.php with the message “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page”.

If I click the comments icon I am correctly taken to the url https://www.mysite.org/wp-admin/edit-comments.php with no error. From there I have access to the left hand wordpress menu and all menu choices seem to be working. Apart from JetPack that is.

@ninianepress That solution comes up in every thread relating to this problem.

I have looked at every solution suggested in every thread I can find on the topic and so far nothing has fixed the issue. I have

    deleted and deactivated all plugins
checked and rechecked and reset prefixes in db and wp-config
    checked php version
    checked and reset .htaccess
    created new admin user
    checked wp_capabilities

So far nothing. I am just glad my whole site hasn’t broken down as it has taken me four years to get to where it is now. To start over is not an option.

@mark3mark I have the same issue, and have had it for ages without finding a cure. You should still be able to access the control panel. Just delete the latter part of the URL (everything after the site name), and you should still be logged in with the menu bar at the top. For me, the only way to get into the control panel is to click the comments icon. You should be taken to you list of comments.

Loggin in through Google Apps login show the same symptoms.

So I have cross checked the table prefix and the wp_config. No references in the database to the old prefix, everything is using the new standard wp_ prefix. Still no closer to figuring out why I’m getting this error. Most of the site works fine. Here’s what happens:

    I log in.
I get the “Sorry …” message.
    Delete /wp-admin/ from the URL.
Home page shows as it should with the control bar at the top.
Drop down menu with site name on the top left does not work, it does not appear on mouse over. The top left W menu item works as it should.
If there are updates I cannot access them by clicking the Updates icon in the top bar. Clicking the Comments icon in the top bar correctly takes me to the list of comments.
I am now in the dashboard.
The drop down menu with the site name now works and shows “View site” on mouse over.
I can go to users to delete users, but I am unable to edit users.
The Updates menu item is inaccessible, but I can perform all updates either on the plugins page or on the themes page.
I used to run Jet Pack for statistics, but I am no longer able to activate it (I get the same Sorry… message).

I am not sure what else I can tell you. I am not even sure when this all started, it has been like this for so long I’ve forgotten.

There are so many posts about the prefix causing this and most of them say that that could be “one of the reasons” for this error, but I have yet to find a single post about any alternative reasons. If wp_users and wp_usermeta are free of errors, then what could be doing this, and how could I go about fixing it? Is there an easy way to move just posts and media to a clean WP installation? I did use the Duplicator plugin, but it is now giving me a “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” when I try to create a new archive of the site so using that is out.

    Any help?
Any paid support services I can use?

    Best regards
    Geir

Received an answer from Andy Schmidt via email, but can’t see that post here. I’ll answer him anyway.

Used “All in one security” to change the table prefix to the default wp_

    Now I have the following:

    $table_prefix = ‘wp_’;

    wp_options->wp_user_roles
    wp_usermeta->wp_capabilities AND wp_user_level

    Still get the same errors.

I still have not found a solution for this. My database has the syd_ prefix so wp_user_roles is named syd_wp_user_roles. Changing this to wp_user_roles removes the error during login, but also removes the top menu after logging in meaning I cant access the dashboard.

Updates can only be done in the plugin list view or in the theme browser. The updates page is not accessible.

I am unable to view the summary page after logging in.

I am unable to enable Jetpack.

The top left dropdown menu with my site name does not work while viewing the site, but it works when I am on the admin page.

Tried the “All in one security” plugin to change the db prefix back to the default wp_ to no avail. I still get the same error.

    More info:

Today I was successful in logging in. Did nothing differently. Took me to the home page. All other errors are still the same.

Clicking “Updates” in the top menu gives me the “Sorry” error. I can however perform the updates if I do them through the Plugin or Theme pages.

Activating Jetpack does not work. Clicking on Connect to WordPress.com gives me the “Sorry” error.

Added info: When I am on the admin page the drop down with my site’s name in the top left works.

I have the same problem. Started a short while ago. Suspect around the time I updated WP. I have deactivated all plugins. And looked for database keys with he wrong prefix, but couldn’t find any.

At the moment, by using history in my browser to go back to a logged in session (how does this work?) I can create new posts, and edit existing posts, but I cannot log in though wp_admin, edit users, or access the update page.

I did as suggested, and it was “Comprehensive Google Map Plugin” that was messing with everything. I’ll send the developer a note and hope he /she can fix it. If not I’ll have to look for a new map plugin. Thankfully it was not one of my most frequently used features….

Nope. It takes me to a legacy looking page where I get three tab choices. From Computer, From URL and Media Library. And the Media library is a list view. Gone is the grid from 3.9.2 where I could drop a new image. And even if I can upload a new image, there is no “OK” button that can take me back to the edit page so I have to go all the way back to the control panel->posts->edit

I also cannot add keywords or choose from my old ones or add new categories.

This is starting to look like a big mistake. Restoring 3.9.2 will cost me money as I’ll have to get my ISP to restore the root directory and the database… This is the first time a WP upgrade has gone wrong…

Same goes for Keywords. None of the old keywords show up as autocomplete suggestions, and adding new ones does not work.

Sucuri comes up clean. But then again, it also came up clean shortly before my host shut me down the second time so I am not overly impressed as it missed (or was unable to see and scan) a fe obvious files which I found quite easily through ftp.
