  • @kim09 I did the same thing just now and it worked. Thank goodness. Check it out – blog.earthformed.com let me know if you find anything buggy. The first time after resaving the permalink structure the sidebars were blank. Now they are OK after a reload.

Thanks for the heads up on this FAQ sheet. I looked at the possibility of white space in the wp-config file and there was none that I could discern. So after trying to modify and remodify it I simply recreated it using the wp-config-sample.php file provided by wordpress. I did nothing other than fill in my data and copy and paste the unique codes and voila – it worked!

I was having a similar problem for a different reason. Most of my WP installations are in the root folder, but I decided to try one in a wordpress named directory instead to see how it worked since I have html files in the root right now (https://glas.earthformed.com/wordpress). Well, when I copied the htaccess file from another wp installation I forgot to remove it’s contents before saving it to the wordpress directory. When I tried to view new files I’d created I got error 404 no matter what I did. Well, when I looked closely at the htaccess file, which was set for WP write permissions BTW, I noticed that what wordpress had added had the wordpress/ before all its Rewrite and directive commands. DOH! As soon as I removed what was there before and left what WP had written for me everything worked just fine. Look very closely at your .htaccess file if you are having an issue like this. Especially if you’ve moved directories recently.

My blog is having the same problem. None of the file names have spaces or strange characters. I’ve even tried cropping and resizing and renaming to see if it made a difference, but I still get the HTTP error when WordPress starts “Crunching” the downloaded file. At that point all I can do is click on “dismiss” when it tells me “An error has occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”

Is there a permission I need to change or something within the database that could be causing this error?

It took me a few times of running davey579’s hack in conjunction with the suggestion posted by jstroh to get this right.

I had a fairly new installtion of WP 2.3.3 and wanted to install a few more. Since the topics are marginally related it sounded like a good idea to use a common user table for user and usermeta info. So, jstroh, I did follow your post! Very helpful indeed. I followed the modifications for wp_config to define the custom table (it didn’t work at first, but it could’ve been me). Then I followed steps 2 and 3 from davey579’s post. After which I followed the suggestion from DKN’s post.

As for the PostAuthor problem I did not find a wp-admin/admin-db.php in the WP 2.3.3 installation files. Is there any other file that for the v2.3.3 that will solve this? I tried to search the files, but didn’t come up with anything.
