    Hi Patabugen,

You can set what image sizes you wish to be also compressed (or not) via Settings->Media.
But currently you cannot stop the original from being compressed as well.

I will add the setting to select compressing the original or not while other image sizes are selected to our task list and will try to include it in our next release.

Also on our task list is a setting to leave a copy of the uncompressed original in the uploads folder, or even store it as a special size for the image so it could still be displayed.

    Hi JLHimes,

First make sure the plugin is activated.

    From the WordPress admin dashboard,
    To manually compress images:
    1.) GOTO Media->Library
2.) There should a column for ‘Compress PNG for WP’ while the library is in ‘list’ mode. (not grid)
3.) Click the link ‘Compress now.’ on the row of the image you wish to manually compress.
    OR
2.) Check the box next to the images you wish to manually compress.
3.) Select ‘Bulk Compress via TinyPNG’ from the ‘Bulk Actions’ Dropdown.
    4.) Click ‘Apply’

PS. If the image(and its specified resizes) have already been compressed, then attempting to manually recompress will not make another call to TinyPNG’s api thus not counting against your API Key’s monthly limit [free key==500 per month] ).

    Genkee,

Sorry about the issues you have had with Compress PNG for WP. We have found and fixed the 0 byte image issue for localhost development in v1.3.5. We also added an filesize check to make sure no more 0 byte images can be saved.
Make sure to update to v1.3.5 and reupload any 0 byte images still in your media library.

Yes this was a problem for WAMP, AAMP, MAMP local dev, if your interested this was the issue, https://stackoverflow.com/questions/18971983/curl-requires-curlopt-ssl-verifypeer-false .

    Hi Snoweh,

Im sorry you are still having 0 byte image issues.
I just completed installing a fresh 1.3.4 version of Compress PNG for WP on one of our clients sites( WP v4.1). I was able to successfully compress JPEG and PNG images, using both methods (automatic on upload, bulk compress via media library) of both new and existing images on their server. This is after local dev, staging, and 3rd party client successful testing of this plugin.

The most common cause of this issue is, existing 0 byte images need to be reuploaded before they can be compressed again via Compress PNG for WP.

At this point i would like to know more about the environment you are having issues running this plugin in.
What i know about your environment:
    Compres PNG for WP v1.3.4
    WP v.4.1

    Additional Information Requested:
Are the images new or existing to your WP media library (previously corrupted 0 byte images HAVE to be reuploaded)?
    What other plugins are activated?
What Hosting Provider are you using?
Did you get a free TinyPNG api key and if so what is it?
Is there any error message displayed in the media library under the column ‘Compress PNG for WP’, or is it just a corrupted ‘blank’ image that gets displayed?

    Tevya,

Sorry about any issues you are having. After investigating your bug report i did find an error with the bulk compress function where it was not allowing bulk compress of JPEG’s.

This has been fixed(v1.3.4) but i don’t believe it is the root cause of your issue, for bulk compress should have still worked for PNG’s(tested and confirmed before 1.3 update release and today on a couple of our sites).

Keep in mind that Compress PNG for WP cannot compress an image twice, so if you had already compressed an image at upload or via the media library and you attempt to compress( bulk or single) the image again it will just skip it.
An image will have the text ‘Not compressed yet.’ in its ‘compress PNG for WP’ column in the media library if it has not been compressed and can still be compressed. Otherwise it will display some information about the image size and how much it was compressed. The ‘Compress now’ link is always visible for if you change what size of images(thumbnail, 150×150) you want compressed via settings->media, then you can rerun the compression on the new sizes.

Hopefully this addresses your issue, if your still having problems with an image try deleting and reuploading without the ‘Automatic shrink on upload’ setting and then bulk compress or ‘compress now’ manually via the media library.

    Hi Zach21uk,

Make sure your running v1.3.3 ( just updated) , possibly delete the plugin and re add it to wordpress.
For our testing and other users have reported that v1.3 and above have fixed the 0 byte image issue for both PNG and JPEG. Unfortunately you will have to delete and reupload any 0 byte images.

Let me know if this fixes your issue.

    Hi Arthurpeace,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you about this question.

We just released a new version (1.3) that now also supports JPEG compression like smush.it via TinyJPEG.

During testing i activated both WP smush.it and Compress for WP and found some interesting results.

If both plugins are activated and their automatic upload compression is enabled then Compress for WP will attempt to compress JPEG/PNG images first. If successful WP smush.it will then report no savings and not compress the image further.

If both plugins are activated and only WP smush.it’s automatic upload compression is enabled then JPEG/PNG images will be first compressed via smush.it for a small gain in compression. But through the media library those images could be further compressed via Compress for WP for even more gain in compression.

TLDR; yes this plugin can work side by side with WP Smush.it, though if you want to compress via both plugins you will have to run it through WP smush.it first then Compress for WP. Not recommend though as Compress for WP now supports all of WP smush.it’s file formats except GIFs with better compression gain.

    Tevya,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We have released a new version (1.3) of the plugin that fixes this bug. As well as adding JPEG compression support via TinyJPEG.

Yes!!! We have released a new version (1.3) of this plugin with support for JPEG compression via TinyJPEG.

    Hi,

Sorry about that, you are correct a recent update to TinyPNG’s api was causing this plugin to overwrite uploaded images with corrupted 0 size ‘compressed’ versions of the image.

We have released a new version (1.3) of the plugin that fixes this issue and adds support for JPEG compression as well.

So updating the plugin should fix this issue for you, But any previously corrupted images will have to be re-uploaded and compressed again.
