OK, stop press! I seem to have fixed it.

There is a rogue plugin called Paginated Gallery by Phil Barker. Disabling this plugin seems to have fixed the issue.

If anyone else is having troubles, I recommend deactivating Phil Barker’s Paginated Gallery plugin as it no longer seems to be maintained.

    Sorry for any inconvenience.

Greetings once more ladies and gentlemen!

So, it seems a few months have gone by and I need to create another gallery.

This is proving to be somewhat counter-intuitive. :-/

This is the page that needs the new gallery: https://www.wudrecords.co.uk/artists/now/gallery/

I already added the images to my media collection. The smaller images are already embedded into this page: https://www.wudrecords.co.uk/artists/now/now-biography/

I created a new gallery using the “Add Media” function in exactly the way one would imagaine this should be done. I ended up with a line of code on the page that looks like this:

    [gallery columns="4" ids="832,14213,14218,14220,14224,14226,14229,14231,14234,14236,14237,14238"]

However, the gallery doesn’t actually appear on the page. The only picture that appears is the first one in the list. That picture was originally just plonked onto the page before the others were added to the media library, but that code has now been deleted.

What is extremely odd is that if I look at the “visual” view instead of the “text” view in the classic editor, all the pictures are there!!! But not if I look at the page in a browser. Madness!

Could it be some sort of a cache issue? Is there a time delay associated with updating the page and it actually updating in a browser? Do I need to reupload all the images and rename them again somehow, and if so won’t that affect the “Now Biography” page which seems to be OK? It is very weird and frustrating that this should be so difficult.

Please could somebody who is clever with these things tell me what I’m doing wrong? It looks as if it should work as far as I can tell but I just don’t have the necessary skills to make a WP gallery it would seem.

So I finally got the result I wanted. Hooray!

I renamed all the files and made a new gallery. Then realised they were in reverse order. The ‘reverse order’ function didn’t work, so I renamed all the files. Again. Finally – success!

Sheesh. That took a long time. Why isn’t it easy like it used to be?

For anyone who likes their music, we’ll be releasing some Critical Error songs in the coming days. We’ll release them one at a time with a day or two in between each.

If you cannot wait to hear some of the awesome bands on our 36-year-old indie label, you can start here: [link redacted]

Thankful there were only 25 files. If there were 25000, then the renaming business would have been truly horrendous.

Peace and love brothers and sisters. \,,/(^_^)\,,/

Don’t worry, all the suggestions very much appreciated.

Tried Brave, Chrome and Firefox. All misbehaving.

Maybe making a new gallery might be the way forward.

    What a confufulation. ??

Very glad the screenshot helped. You can see that the pictures are ordered differently in the editor and the gallery itself.

It is certainly odd. I did it exactly as you said under where you wrote “The steps should be”.

The thing I find most odd is that the pictures are saved in the right order in the editor, yet they appear in the order they do on the page, which is completely different.

I wonder why something this basic needs to be so complicated? Something seems to have gone very badly wrong somewhere. Perhaps the clever people who make the WP code can do a slight rewrite of a couple lines.

Hi Emily and thanks for your reply!

That’s very interesting, thanks for making the screenshot. That’s what I see as well. But what’s in the editor is a different photo order, and the one that I want. I moved images around using drag & drop. The drag & drop seemed to work just fine.

It seems a bit weird that my order in the editor is different to the one in the gallery.

I’m a bit lead-fisted where it comes to web things, and don’t know about the ibb.co link where you kept your screenshot. In order to show you what I mean, I made a screenshot of what I see in the editor and added it to the gallery at the bottom right. ??

    https://www.wudrecords.co.uk/archives/critical-error/critical-error-gallery/

If you go to the page and click on that photo, you’ll see the photos are in a different order in the editor.

    This seems somehow… odd.

I don’t know how exactly I managed to do it, more by luck than judgement and with endless fiddling around with different combinations and permutations of clicking various different things, but somehow I managed to create a gallery. Now it won’t reorder properly, so I made a new topic. It reorders in the editor and looks great, but on the page it’s in a different order. Why does this have to be so hard? <h3>Nurk</h3>. :-\
