sort order in the menu? or where?

You need to add the post featured images to load in the slider. Google on how to do that.

You need to enable the settings from theme options page.
You do not need to add any extra tag to the posts, you can simply select the category from the theme options page.

You need to upload the post featured images. Please check on wordpress website on how to upload the featured images.

You can activate the slider from the theme options page.

If you look in to the header.php file, you can see that the #nav is inside the #header. So you can change that and place it outside and then apply CSS to it.
I’d suggest you to have a look at the comments on the theme page (https://gazpo.com/2012/07/max/, there you can find answers to most of the common questions.

@david, Thanks a lot for your kind reply. Sorry for the missing GPL license file. I have updated the package and CSS file.
I tested the theme with major web browsers (FF, IE, Chrome, Opera, Safari), but I couldn’t check with the mobile device.
As it’s my first theme, lots of things to learn.
